He Claimed to Work for Washington State. Then ICE Showed Up

SEATTLE, WA – An illegal alien from Kenya who purported to be a Washington state employee and former corrections officer was apprehended by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) this past October, per an agency release, with officials highlighting how despite being a visa overstay, the Biden administration granted him work authorization.

On October 26, ICE Seattle conducted “a targeted enforcement operation” which led to the apprehension of Stanley Robert Kengu Muthee, a Kenyan national who was apparently still wearing a uniform for the Washington State Department of Children, Youth and Families when he was apprehended.

According to agency officials, Muthee first entered the United States back in February of 2019 with the terms of his visa explicitly noting that he had to depart the country no later than August 5, 2019. However, authorities claim Muthee remained in the country illegally, with the Biden administration later granting him three separate work authorizations despite having violated the terms of his original visa.

When ICE officials questioned Muthee following his apprehension, he claimed to be a current employee for the state’s youth and family services and also claimed to have previously worked for Washington state corrections.

In a statement regarding Muthee’s apprehension, ICE Assistant Director of Public Affairs Micah Bock emphasized that individuals illegally residing in the country have no business being employed by their local or state governments.

“Illegal aliens should not be working for state governments - Americans should expect better from the offices meant to serve them - but nonetheless, a job with the state of Washington doesn’t come with a free pass to ignore federal immigration law,” Assistant Director Bock stated.

Per the agency’s press release detailing Muthee’s apprehension, ICE asserted that under the current administration and agency leadership that “ICE is once again focused on enforcing the law, protecting the public and removing dangerous individuals from our communities.”

Muthee will remain in ICE custody pending the outcome of his immigration proceedings.
