CHARLOTTE COUNTY, FL - Authorities in Florida said that an illegal immigrant that was released by the Biden administration has been arrested and accused of raping a 13-year-old boy who was playing hide-and-seek with his young brother behind his home.
According to the New York Post, 20-year-old Samuel Cobos-Carmona, a Mexican national, allegedly confessed to sexually assaulting the victim after he "befriended" him and his eight-year-old brother while they were playing hide-and-seek on April 13th. The Charlotte County Sheriff's Office (CCSO) said that the man then started playing the game with the young boys.
On Thursday, April 24th, Sheriff Bill Prummel said, "While in the woods with these two, he sexually battered a 13-year-old child, both orally and anally." Authorities said that the incident wasn't reported until a week later because the alleged victim was initially too afraid to tell anyone about the horrific attack.
Cobos-Carmona was arrested on Monday, April 21st, and has been charged with lewd and lascivious battery involving a victim 12-to-16-years-old. Prummel said, "We're going to work very hard with the State Attorney's Office and our federal partners to make sure this individual does not see the light of day again. And if he does, to make sure that he is permanently removed from the United States."
Cobos-Carmona first entered the United States illegally back in 2021, but was caught and sent back to Mexico. He illegally returned the following year and fled to Florida after evading Texas authorities. Prummel said, "He was located in Sarasota, Florida, in July of 2024 but because of the Biden-Harris catch-and-release policy, he was released back into our community."
He added, "People often question why myself and my fellow sheriffs in the state of Florida are working with our federal partners to round individuals like this up to get them the hell out of here. This is why."
Fox News reported that Prummel also criticized cities and states with sanctuary policies that limit cooperation between local law enforcement and federal immigration authorities. He said, "They ought to be ashamed of themselves." He accused those jurisdictions of putting the safety of criminal illegal immigrants over American citizens and children.
In a separate incident, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) issued a press release announcing a detainer against a Mexican national who wa arrested on allegations of kidnapping and raping a minor. In Raleigh, North Carolina, ICE lodged an immigration detainer against 41-year-old Victor Villalba-Bustamante, following his arrest by the Lee County Sheriff's Office (LCSO) and the Sanford Police Department (SPD) on April 9th.
His arrest stems from an incident in which he was found in a hotel room with a 14-year-old female victim who was reported missing. He has been criminally charged with two counts of statutory rape, abduction of a child, felony conspiracy to commit abduction, second-degree kidnapping, and solicitation of a minor by a computer.
The victim had been reported missing after failing to return home after school. Villalba-Bustamante has no prior criminal history, however, due to the nature and severity of the criminal charges, ICE and Homeland Security Investigations immediately lodged a detainer to ensure he remains in custody.
