WASHINGTON, DC – Earlier in May, Republican Congressman Andy Biggs appeared on Fox News to discuss the ongoing feud on Capitol Hill regarding the funding of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) for the remainder of President Trump’s term in office, highlighting the opposition from Democrats in Washington is part of a broader pattern of behavior.
Republican members of Congress have been working to push through a $70 billion resolution that would work in part to fund ICE and Border Patrol for the next three years, but Rep. Biggs says the opposition coming from the other end of the political aisle is hardly something to be surprised at when looking into the party’s past endeavors aimed against law and order.
“Well, I think this is thematically consistent with where they've been. First, they opened the border, right, and prevented our federal law enforcement from enforcing the border. Then they tried to defund police forces, local and state, all over the country. And now you get the federal law enforcement having to deal again, ICE and CBP, with the aftermath of those two disastrous Democrat policies.”
According to Rep. Biggs, Democrats in Washington are unable to reconcile how matters related to border security and proper funding of such is paramount to “American sovereignty,” and are purportedly ignoring the successes of the current administration regarding the southern border.
“I think this is just consistent with them. They don't seem to understand American sovereignty, the need for safety in this country, and they don't appreciate President Trump's policies, which have secured our border better than at any time in my lifetime.”
In response to statements recently made by former Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas who claimed the Biden administration “made reforms that were sensible” regarding immigration policy, Rep. Biggs also pushed back, asserting he couldn’t think of “one reform” enacted by the prior administration in terms of immigration enforcement that behooved Americans.
“Not one reform was made that made this country safer. Not one reform was made that actually kept terrorists from coming into our country or gang members and violent gang members from coming in. Not one reform. When Secretary Mayorkas was making reforms, they all went to make our nation less secure, less safe, and a less sovereign state.”
