Kansas City Police Seek Answers After Second Double Homicide This Month on Same City Block

KANSAS CITY, MO - Two people were shot and killed, including a juvenile on Saturday evening in Kansas City’s south side, the Kansas City Police Department revealed.

The Kansas City Star reported that officers responded to a shooting call at 10:30 p.m. on Saturday. On arrival, a man was found unresponsive in the parking lot, suffering from at least one gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The second victim, a juvenile boy, was driven to a local hospital in a private vehicle and was later pronounced dead. The victims were identified as 18-year-old Dillon Boykin and 16-year-old Brandon Henderson, police said.

Investigators are currently trying to determine what led up to the shooting and the crime scene remained active on Saturday night and Sunday morning.

Police data showed the murders were the 71st and 72nd in Kansas City thus far in 2026, The Star reported, including fatal police shootings; last year by this date, data showed 84 homicides.

The incident marked the second double-shooting thus far in June on the 9200 block of Old Santa Fe Road. The first occurred on June 11, claiming the lives of a 17-year-old and 18-year-old.

After Saturday’s murders, area residents are frustrated and concerned, The Star reported. Saraeya Crowell, a neighbor who was awoken by gunfire, encountered Henderson’s mother outside with him after the shooting. They put Henderson in her car and drove him to the hospital. She said the youth was responsive while inside the car and despite not knowing Henderson’s mother, stayed with her until she was informed her son had succumbed to his wounds.

“I stayed up until like 5 in the morning. Because I was just like…’what the f*ck?’” she said. “I just feel so bad…we did all of that, trying to rush him to the hospital, and he didn’t make it, you know? We were driving so fast.”

Crowell and another neighbor, Carlos Santana, told The Star they heard a “spray of bullets,” suggesting it was a machine gun or possibly a handgun converted to automatic via an illegal switch; Santana was visiting his sister’s apartment when the shooting occurred.

Another resident, who didn’t want to be interviewed, told the outlet that they were “traumatized” by the double shooting.

Crowell, who has only lived in the area for a month, said after Saturday’s shooting, she wants out.

“There’s no security over here. They just moved anybody in cause it’s income based,” she said. “It’s a whole bunch of young people with guns, and they just don’t care about people. (On Saturday) I parked my car over there, and it’s just a whole bunch of dudes just sitting outside with guns. And it’s just like, for what?”

Another neighbor said the apartment complex is fairly new, however the gate to enter and exit is broken and there are no cameras near where the shooting occurred.

There is no reason to believe that the two shootings are connected. Santana hopes that some type of regulations are put in place to protect residents and keep things from getting worse.

“I think we all need to get together and try to figure it out, and I think they should have some kind of apartment committee or something to make sure everybody’s in good standing and nothing happens,” Santana said. “And people watch out for each other so it won’t happen again. Because if they don’t care, it’s gonna get worse.”

Kansas City police are asking anyone with information about the shooting to contact the department’s TIPS hotline at 816-474-TIPS (8477). Anonymous tips are eligible for a reward up to $25,000.
