Large bust made at the border in San Ysidro - over $880,000 worth of drugs plus firearms

SAN YSIDRO, CA - A larget drug and gun bust was conducted at the entry point of San Ysidro by Customs and Border Protection (CBP) last week, the agency said.

On March 4 around 10:40 p.m, a 38-year-old woman was driving an SUV into the US from Mexico when CBP officers inspected her vehicle. During the initial inspection, officers observed packages that appeared suspicious, so they referred the driver and vehicle to a more thorough inspection.

Using x-ray imaging, CBP officers observed "several anomalies" in multiple areas of the vehicle, including the rear seats, spare tire, wheel wells, and the trunk. They called a K9 unit, who confirmed the presence of drugs in the car.

According to CBP, a 103 packages total were seized which contained methamphetamines, blue fentanyl pills, cocaine, and heroin. The drugs weighed 126.4 pounds, an estimated $885,460 in street value. Additionally, three handguns were also recovered.

“Another outstanding interdiction by our CBP officers,” said Mariza Marin, Port Director of the San Ysidro Port of Entry. “Our officers inspect over 100,000 travelers each day, balancing the need to efficiently process legitimate trade and travel with the ability to intercept illicit goods and narcotics. This seizure is a testament to their hard work and dedication.”

Custody of the driver, who was not identified, was given to the Department of Homeland Security.
