NEW YORK, NY - Another New York resident has fallen victim to a violent attack in New York City’s subway system, police said.
The Daily News reports that a 55-year-old man, who has not yet been identified, was punched in the face and collapsed on a Penn Station subway platform.
According to authorities, the victim accidentally bumped into the suspect, leading to the man punching him in the face after a brief argument at about 6:55 p.m. Saturday. The man collapsed about five minutes later. The suspect, who remains at large, walked off.
NYPD officers found the victim unconscious, and he was transported by FDNY paramedics to Lenox Hill Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Police said the New York City Medical Examiner’s office will determine the exact cause of death.
NYPD sources said an unnamed person of interest was taken into custody on Sunday.
A photo of the suspect captured on surveillance cameras was distributed to city officers after the attack. It is unclear if the person of interest is, in fact, the attacker, or what charges he might face if he is.
