ALBUQUERQUE, NM - During the morning hours on Thursday, February 13th, both directions of Central Avenue between 60th and 64th streets were closed while police with the Albuquerque Police Department (APD) investigated a deadly stabbing.
According to KRQE, responding officers arrived on scene just before 9:00 a.m. to reports of a stabbing incident. Police said there was a confrontation between two male riders. APD said that the victim got on the bus at Central and San Mateo and 19-year-old Charles Madrid got on a Nob Hill. A fight broke out on the bus between the victim and two other people.
Madrid stood up, approached the group, and after that they sat down. The victim and Madrid then got into an argument and the victim ended up with a stab wound to the neck. APD Communications Director Gilbert Gallego said, "At some point during that route, they made it to the southwest part of Albuquerque and there was some sort of confrontation or fight on the bus, Quickly, there was maybe one stab wound to the neck of the victim. Transit officers arrived in minutes. Unfortunately, the victim lost a lot of blood very quickly and was declared deceased at the scene."
Police said Madrid then went to a charter school where he is a student and told staff he had gotten into a fight and later asked for a ride home. He was arrested at home and has been charged with murder and tampering with evidence. The investigation is ongoing.
In a separate incident, a 27-year-old man died after being stabbed at a home on Friday morning, February 14th. According to KWQC, Daniel Gordon of Rock Falls, Illinois, was stabbed and then taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital where he died from his injuries. Police with the Rockfalls Police Department (RPD) said that 36-year-old Kyle Cooper has been arrested and charged with aggravated battery. He is being held in the Whiteside County Jail pending additional charges.
RPD said that at approximately 1:50 a.m., police were dispatched to an address in the 600 block of West 20th Street for a reported stabbing. Upon arriving on scene, police said they found Gordon who was suffering from "severe injuries." RPD launched an investigation into the incident and Cooper was identified as the suspect shortly after. The investigation remains ongoing.
A Lee County, Alabama, man was stabbed to death and his roommate has been arrested. According to AL.com, an argument led to the death of 41-year-old Cory Vernon Rogers. Sheriff's deputies responded to the incident at 2:34 a.m. on Sunday, February 9th to a home in the 900 block of Lee County Road 147 in the Beauregard community.
Once on scene, deputies found Rogers with multiple stab wounds to his chest, side, and back. The suspect has been identified as 34-year-old Daniel Ray Metcalf. He was taken into custody at the residence and admitted to stabbing his roommate. Witnesses told detectives that the two men go into an argument and then started physically fighting. That's when they said Metcalf pulled out a knife and started stabbing Rogers. Metcalf is being heled without bond at the Lee County Jail. The investigation is active and ongoing.
