MINNEAPOLIS, MN- The Department of Homeland Security ain’t playing. Despite loony leftist Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison filing a lawsuit against the agency to stop deployment of federal immigration agents in Minneapolis, DHS announced they are sending additional officers to the city to protect immigration enforcement agents from “coordinated violent attacks,” NewsNation reports.
The surge follows a shooting last week in which a woman, Renee Good, deliberately struck an ICE agent with her car and was shot and killed for the trouble. Video footage of the incident showed Good, who had been obstructing traffic and generally creating a nuisance, refusing to exit her car despite repeated demands. She then started to back up briefly, then sped forward, striking the agent with the left front fender. In one video, her “significant other” is heard yelling to her, “Drive baby, drive…drive!” She did, and paid the price.
Tricia McLaughlin, assistant DHS secretary, told NewsNation that the surge, already totaling 2,400 with hundreds more inbound, is necessary because the city’s sanctuary policies prevent the Minneapolis Police Department from cooperating with, assisting, or protecting federal agents engaged in immigration enforcement.
“What we’ve been seeing is a highly coordinated campaign of violence against our law enforcement officers,” McLaughlin told the outlet, noting there have been ten vehicle rammings against ICE vehicles in one week, as well as an explosion in assaults against ICE agents.
In his lawsuit, Ellison, who is under fire due to rampant, widespread fraud in Minnesota under his watch, called the surge of federal agents “unlawful” and “unprecedented.”
For her part, McLaughlin defended the surge, saying the Department of Homeland Security has arrested over 2,000 people in Minneapolis over the past five weeks, with 70% of those having either pending criminal charges or prior convictions. Among those arrested were a murderer from Ecuador, child predators, and a kidnapper. Law Enforcement Today highlighted some of those in a previous piece.
McLaughlin said that feckless Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz has released 470 people from local jails, including some charged with serious criminal offenses such as murder and rape, which has necessitated federal action. She said officers use reasonable suspicion as outlined in the Constitution under the Fourth Amendment, and only arrest citizens who actively obstruct or assault officers.
