CARDWELL, MO - On Tuesday, May 19, a man in his forties was sentenced to life in prison after he was found guilty of decapitating his mother, Dunklin County Prosecuting Attorney Nicholas Jain said in a statement.
The son, 43-year-old Trevor John Huber, was convicted at trial of first-degree murder in the killing of his mother, 63-year-old Charlotte Wilson, KAIT8 reported. At the conclusion of the trial, Judge Josh Underwood sentenced Huber to life in prison without the possibility of parole. The two-day trial took place from May 18 to 19 in Dunklin County and Huber was found guilty as charged.
"I want to thank the Dunklin County Sheriff’s Office and the Missouri State Highway Patrol for their professional and diligent work in investigating and solving this homicide and in all the cases they handle,” Jain said.
On December 21, 2018, the Dunklin County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) received a 911 call from a man on the 300 block of North Main Street in Cardwell, according to a probable cause affidavit. Dispatchers said Huber sounded confused on the call. A deputy responded to the address and made contact with a man, later identified as Huber, who answered the door naked.
The deputy asked about the whereabouts of Huber's mother. "The male again appeared to be disoriented and possibly impaired by illegal narcotics,” the deputy said at the time. During an interview with police, Huber told investigators that he had done methamphetamine a few days before the murder.
The deputy entered the home and found a decapitated woman. Huber was arrested and the woman was identified as Huber's mother. Huber admitted to investigators that "he was concerned he killed his mother." He said he believed she was trying to kill him by poisoning him. Huber wrote, "I killed my mother" on a piece of paper, then tore it up and swallowed it.
Officers then executed a search warrant of Huber's home, where they found Wilson's head and a bloody knife and hammer believed to have been used to kill her.
