MARYLAND HEIGHTS, MO- A Missouri child is yet another victim of the revolving door criminal justice system in blue cities after a convicted sex offender who was let out on bail sexually assaulted another child, the Lexington Herald Leader reports.

In a criminal complaint filed on June 27, Anthony Hawkins now stands accused of child molestation, statutory sodomy, and kidnapping, authorities say.

The victim, a 14-year-old child, was in a room where Hawkins was staying when he threatened them (the child’s gender was not noted)  with a rusty knife and poked them with it, the complaint stated.

Hawkins then locked the child in the room and proceeded to force them to touch him inappropriately while he was naked, police said.

The child was not able to escape the room, and it wasn’t until police discovered the two in the room while searching the home that they were able to locate them.

Hawkins is a convicted sex offender and was jailed after being convicted of forcible sodomy in 1995, according to police records. Court records show that Hawkins was released from jail in May after being charged with resisting arrest and failure to register as a sex offender.

After his latest arrest, he is being held in jail without bond, according to an arrest warrant affidavit. He is scheduled to appear in court on July 7.

Maryland Heights is located about 20 miles northwest of St. Louis.
