FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA – The mother of a 41-year-old woman who was allegedly murdered by an illegal alien this past February reportedly opened her slain daughter’s Bible to find an inspiring note left behind by her while navigating this tragedy.
As previously reported in Law Enforcement Today, 41-year-old Stephanie Minter was fatally stabbed on February 23rd while at a bus stop in Fairfax County. Authorities later apprehended the suspect, 32-year-old Abdul Jalloh, approximately 24 hours after the fatal stabbing after he was picked up by local authorities in an unrelated shoplifting incident at an area liquor store.
While no motive has been articulated by authorities regarding the alleged murder, Jalloh’s criminal record and status as an illegal alien has been the subject of intense scrutiny, as he’d been arrested over 30 times prior to the stabbing incident while immigration detainers were routinely ignored by Virginia officials.
Minter’s mother, Cheryl, recently shared insight on the impact her daughter had on the people around her, saying, “She always had that bright smile from early on and the love of everybody. She loved people. She was the most amazing, she was the friendliest person I think I've ever met in my life. She never went anywhere without her smile on her face.”
Cheryl said her late daughter was an avid reader of the Bible, stating, “She always was trying to be the most positive thing she could be, and outgoing. Bible verses she would pull from. It was like she memorized half the Bible. She could always pull them out of thin air, along with the chapter and the verse. She always amazed me with that.”
In the wake of her daughter’s killing, Cheryl said she opened up her daughter’s Bible that she’d gifted her years earlier, happening upon an unexpected but comforting message amid these dark times.
“Merry Christmas 2024, the word of God itself is a gift,” Cheryl recounted of the writing inside her daughter’s Bible, adding, “but this year it's extra special, because of the particular Bible my mother chose as a gift for Christmas. She knows my love for the Lord and how journaling and coloring helps my emotional mental stability. So Lord, thank you for providing, protecting, loving and giving me the most grace for the moments I need.”
Minter’s mother revealed that during her daughter’s funeral, numerous attendees shared their experiences with her daughter and how she helped bring them to the Lord, saying, “it changed their lives. I mean, she did change people's lives.”
Cheryl, along with her two sons Gary and Ashton, believe the inaction of Fairfax County Commonwealth Attorney Steve Descano is largely to blame for Minter’s death, citing the numerous prior cases dropped by his office against Jalloh.
