CARROLL COUNTY, GA - Authorities said that a 17-year-old is facing murder charges and will be tried as an adult for allegedly killing her mother and stepfather after fatally shooting them both in their own residence while her six-year-old sister was home.
Police said that the young sister was the one who found the bodies, Law & Crime reported. "To me, she is probably the saddest victim in all this," said Ashley Husley, a spokesperson for the Carroll County Sheriff's Office (CCSO).
On Tuesday, July 8th, CCSO held a press conference where they announced the arrest of Sarah Patrick for the deaths of James and Kristin Brock in February.
Patrick has been charged as an adult with two counts of murder and two counts of aggravated assault. Husley emphasized that the investigation was still ongoing.
Husley said the younger child was unaware of what happened after finding her parents with multiple gunshot wounds.
"Smallest daughter found them and then she came and told Sarah and Sarah made the 911 call," Husley said. "Sarah was in the home."
Police went to the home located at 1531 Carrollton Tyus Road on February 20th after the call came in from Sarah. Upon arriving on scene they found James Brock, 45, and Kristin Brock, 41, both dead inside. All of them were living at the home at the time of the alleged murders, Hulsey said.
"Mountains of evidence have gotten us ... here today," Husley said. She noted that James Brock's death was a "special case" due to his health and the things he managed to live through before being killed. "According to his family, he had a lot of heart trouble; he had numerous heart surgeries," Husley said.
"I believe he may have been waiting on a heart transplant at some point. To have his life cut short, when he was given so many opportunities to live, to me that's a big takeaway from this story. And that a mother and stepfather will never be able to raise their children and the little girl that was in the home," she added.
When questioned whether Patrick tried to hide what happened herself, Husley said, "Considering that she didn't just immediately tell us what happened, yes. But who knows what's going on in a young person's mind like that."
The teen's biological father allegedly turned her over to police this week after authorities told her that she had arrest warrants for the Brock killings, police said.
"It's very possible others are involved as well," Husley said. "We are still working with her diligently, our investigators have been speaking with her."
