Alleged New Hampshire Wedding Shooter Shouted 'Free Palestine' As He Opened Fire

NASHUA, NH - In the hours following a shooting at a country club in New Hampshire, authorities have announced that they have charged a 23-year-old with murder.

The shots ran out right as a wedding reception was getting underway on Saturday, September 20, according to NBC10. It all happened around 8:30 p.m. at the Sky Meadow County Club, a popular wedding venue in the New England state. On Sunday, the attorney general announced that 23-year-old Hunter Nadeau had been charged with the murder of 59-year-old Robert Steven DeCesare with a handgun.

Nadeau is charged with second-degree murder and will be arraigned on Monday, September 22 in Nashua. Initial reports suggested that there were two shooters and sparked a massive manhunt in southern New Hampshire and northern Massachusetts. However, authorities now say that Nadeau is the only suspect. The case remains under investigation.

"Video surveillance has confirmed there was only one shooter and they are currently being detained," police said on X.

The attorney general said that there is no known connection between Nadeau and DeCesare. Witnesses to the incident said they saw the alleged shooter walk in armed and wearing a mask from the restaurant at the venue and heard him say "the kids are OK and free Palestine." The groom's uncle said he then heard multiple shots. At least six people were hospitalized in injuries they sustained as they sought cover and fled the venue, according to the New York Post.

"It was really strange. The one thing I can say is when he was walking across the dance floor, I could tell he was the guy because he wasn't dressed up for a wedding, he wasn't dressed up to go to dinner and for a lack of a better definition, he just looked like a weirdo," said Mike Homewood of Mike's Styles, who was at the event.

"Getting together for a dance for the bride and groom and then all chaos went off, Tom Bartelson, the uncle of the grooms, said. "We heard about six shots and everybody ducked for cover and next thing you know we're rushed into safe spots and things like that."

"We were trying to keep family members safe. It was weird because everyone just dropped and rolled. The way this world is going with shootings, we just wanted to keep family safe, keep everyone down and try to find safe spots," Bartelson said.

Nashua's Mayor Jim Donchess reacted to the shooting and commended the local police for capturing the alleged gunman. "Our hearts go out to the families of those killed or injured. Thank you to the Nashua PD for quick work in catching the 'person of interest.' This truly can happen anywhere," Donchess said.

Nadeau is expected to face additional charges stemming from the injured victims.
