New York City is eyeing the conversion of Randall's Island back to its original use of child and youth sporting activies after finally driving off the migrant tent city that was placed on the site, acccording to the New York Post.
New York City Mayor Eric Adams announced that the city had terminated use of an open-air tent to house the migrants last month, bragging that his administration was succeeding in closing several facilities in which migrants had been placed. The Big Apple was inundated with hundreds of thousands of migrants during the Biden administration- overwhelming housing, homeless shelter and resources capacity, and even driving elected officials in the notoriously liberal sanctuary city to the shift sharply to the right in response.
Mayor Eric Adams on X: "Today, we're announcing that the last asylum seeker tent shelter is coming DOWN. Earlier this month, I visited the Randall's Island shelter as the last migrants were preparing to move on, and now the Creedmoor shelter will soon be closing as well. https://t.co/e3XddgMtb5" / X
Restoring youth use of Randall's Island won't come cheap. Manhattan Borough President Mark Levine is asking the city for $11 million to restore fields degraded by the construction of migrant tents, as well as new lighting suitable for activities such as Little League and youth soccer.
Levine was frank about the poor impact the conversion of the island had on Manhattan and Bronx youth in a letter sent to Adams.
“While we understand and fully appreciate the necessity of the temporary measures taken, we must also address the impact they have had on the park’s infrastructure and the community’s access to quality recreational facilities,” Levine wrote. “These additional playable hours would provide over 200,000 kids with the opportunity to get outside and play each year.”
The island- long associated with baseball games and youth athletic pursuits- became more known for migrant criminality during the mass influx of migration under Biden, with videos of brawls and third-world style living conditions disgusting New Yorkers with the state of their city. Law enforcement was forced to devote resources to the island in what amounted to a 'cat and mouse' game- in which migrant shantytowns would be torn down, only to reappear days later.
A series of policies have highlighted New York City's increasing dislike for the mass migration of mostly peniless newcomers, including restrictions on the lengths of homeless shelter stays and committments to work with the administration of President Donald Trump.
One Randall's Island local called the changes on the island a blessing, even if there remains significant work to be done to restore the area.

Hey NYC needs a few intelligent people to be put into position so they can "fix" this city! The present DEI crowd don't have a clue! You reap what you sow!
