New York High School Aide Fired After Allegedly Having Sex with Teenage Boy

NEW YORK CITY, NY – An aide who previously worked at a New York City high school was reportedly dismissed from her role after allegedly initiating a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old student when she was 22 years old, although it’s unclear whether any criminal investigation or charges ensued following the alleged illicit affair, which reportedly occurred three years ago.

In May of 2022, then-22-year-old Ocean Valentine reportedly first interacted with a 17-year-old male student at The Urban Assembly Early College High School of Emergency Medicine in Manhattan, where Valentine was apparently working as an aide at the time. According to a report recently released by the Special Commissioner of Investigation (SCI) for the NYC schools, Valentine informed the student she was on Instagram during the aforementioned encounter, leading to the two connecting on the platform and messaging one another.

It wasn’t long before Valentine exchanged her personal phone number with the teen, according to officials, with the conversations shifting to a sexual nature in either late May or early June in 2022. Those alleged conversations apparently manifested into real-world actions, with the teen telling investigators that Valentine had escorted the child back to his parents’ apartment during the school’s lunch periods to have sex on several occasions.

Apparently, Valentine progressed into engaging in lewd and lascivious acts in public areas with the teen, with the high school aide allegedly sleeping with the teen in a private room at a Sharks Pool Club while celebrating his 18th birthday. Officials were reportedly oblivious to the inappropriate affair until alerted by a female classmate of the teen who had happened upon text messages shared between him and Valentine.

While the investigation was ongoing in early 2023, investigators were taking photos of the teen’s messages relating to the affair when a message from Valentine was received in real-time asking, “What’s going on,” according to officials. Ten days after the fact, the teen informed investigators Valentine was still trying to contact him, showing two missed calls from the high school aide.

Following the receipt of Valentine’s phone records that confirmed the shared communications between her and the teen, she was ultimately dismissed by the local Department of Education following an unpaid suspension.

In light of the incident and findings, SCI Anastasia Coleman urged NYC’s Department of Education to update their social media policies to strictly forbid employees from contacting currently enrolled students via social media or personal cell phones, as the current policy only suggests employees “should not” contact students directly outside of school via the aforesaid methods.
