WEST BABYLON, NEW YORK - A teenager from New York has been arrested and charged with the murder of another teenager, who died after being stabbed at a massive house party.

On Monday, November 10, the Suffolk County Police Department announced that officers arrested a 17-year-old boy in connection to the fatal stabbing of 15-year-old Liam Delemo, Law & Crime reported. The suspect has not been named by police because of his age.

He was charged as a juvenile with second-degree murder. The alleged incident occurred on November 3 at a home in West Babylon, New York, where another teenager threw a party with nearly 100 guests. Police said that a fight broke out at around 10:30 p.m., which ended in the suspect allegedly stabbing Delemo.

The victim was taken to a nearby hospital where he died of his injuries. Delemo died during surgery and was just weeks away from turning 16.

News12 Long Island reported that West Babylon High School, where Delemo was a student, had a delayed opening for a couple days after his death. Support services are being provided to students impacted by his sudden death. The alleged suspect, who resides in Syosset in neighboring Nassau County, was scheduled to be arraigned on Monday, November 10, at Suffolk County's First District Court.

In addition to the 17-year-old suspect, the homeowner faces charges of her own in connection with the fatal stabbing. Bonnie Miranda, 70, the grandmother of the teenager who threw the party, was charged with allegedly breaking Suffolk County's Social Host Law and endangering the welfare of a child.

Prosecutors allege that the defendant and two other friends from Syosset went to the house party despite not being invited, NBC4 reported. When they arrived at the party, Delemo and other West Babylon students reportedly told them to leave. "They weren't supposed to be there and he saw they were making a bit of a disturbance in the backyard," said friend Andrew Lombardi, who was also at the party that night. "They were throwing bottles and being rude."

That confrontation quickly turned deadly, as prosecutors allege that the 17-year-old pulled out a knife and stabbed Delemo several times. "He loved all of his friends," said Delemo's father, Michael. "You know, he would do anything for them." The arrest of the alleged suspect was on the day of Delemo's memorial service.

"He was a good kid and is definitely going to be missed by everybody," said Delemo's mother, Hope. Prosecutors also said that after the stabbing, the teen suspect waved his knife at others before speeding off and crashing into a dead end street, where an off duty police officer lived. He and his friends ran from the crash and took a ride share home.

In court, the defendant's attorney, Jacob Kaplan, denied the charges and said that the 17-year-old was not a flight risk, saying he had contacted Suffolk County police to arrange for the teen to surrender to police on Monday morning. The judge was not convinced and denied bail. A Gofundme has been set up for Delemo's family.
