BRONX, NY - On Monday, October 19, authorities arrested a hit-and-run driver who allegdly rammed into a uniformed NYPD officer responding to a rowdy crowd at a weekend gathering in the Bronx.
The alleged suspect, 31-year-old Eduardo Paulino, was arrested by the U.S. Marshals Service and the NYPD. He has been charged with attempted murder of a police officer in connection with the Saturday evening mayhem, the New York Post reported.
Paulino, who had a recent arrest for assault, tried to make a quick getaway when police responded to Garrison Avenue and Whittier Street in the South Bronx after receiving a 911 call about a large crowd and loud music. Paulino allegedly jumped behind the wheel of a white Honda Pilot and sped off, hitting a uniformed officer in his path.
The injured officer was rushed to Lincoln Medical Center, where he was listed in stable condition. In addition to the attempted murder charge, Paulino has also been charged with assault, vehicular assault, reckless endangerment, reckless driving, and disorderly conduct, authorities said.
“There is nowhere to hide in New York for individuals who choose violence against law enforcement,” said U.S. Marshal Ricky J. Patel. “We promised a swift and decisive capture, and through the combined, relentless efforts of the U.S. Marshals and our partners, we delivered. If you assault those who wear the shield to protect this city, the full weight of federal and local law enforcement will find you.”
