ALBANY, NY—New York Attorney General Letitia James, a Democrat, faces renewed allegations of sexual harassment, assault, and an office-wide cover-up involving both James and her former chief of staff, Ibrahim Khan. Former staffer Angel S. DuBose has accused James and Khan of sexual abuse and perpetrating a subsequent cover-up.

DuBose launched a GoFundMe campaign titled “Letitia James Is Not Above The Law – Justice for Angel DuBose,” aiming to raise $400,000 for legal action against James. She told ArtVoice reporter Frank Parlato she seeks “To tell the truth about what happened on December 22, 2014, when she says she was drugged and assaulted at the NYC Public Advocate’s holiday party.”

DuBose alleges James participated in “a bizarre ritual involving chanting, groping, and a circle of people—including James and chief of staff Ibrahim Khan.” She described fragmented memories of being taken, stripped, touched, and groped, specifically recalling Khan’s face and hearing racial slurs, curses, chanting, and being used as a “slave.”

Parlato, in an April report shared by President Donald Trump on Truth Social, noted James’s rise through the #MeToo movement against former Governor Andrew Cuomo, only to face her own sexual abuse scandal. The New York Post initially reported DuBose’s allegations in 2017, two years after the alleged incident, but later deleted the story. Khan resigned around the same time as other sexual harassment accusations surfaced.

A James spokesman told the Post, “There is absolutely no truth to these allegations. They are an outright lie.” The Post retracted the story, stating DuBose hadn’t identified Khan as her attacker and claimed no memory of the assailant. DuBose disputed this, sued the Post for defamation, and won.

“I recently won my case against the New York Post,” DuBose told Parlato, “for defamation of character after they lied, saying I didn’t know who sexually assaulted me—even though we had an exclusive together back in 2017 where I told them the entire story.” DuBose, fired by James after the allegations, remained silent for nearly a decade.

DuBose alleges that her story has been suppressed, that internal reports within James’ office were altered, witnesses were promoted, and the case with the Department of Investigation was closed without naming her as a victim of any crime.

She has since filed with the NYPD, the New York District Attorney, and the Department of Investigations. She notes that there were many witnesses. “They All Know What Happened. And One of Them Might Talk.” Under New York state law, there is no statute of limitations for first-degree rape and kidnapping, nor for federal aggravated sexual abuse or civil rights violations under color of law.

On her GoFundMe page, she wrote,

“In 2014, Angel S. DuBose served as an intern in the Office of the NYC Public Advocate, Hon. Letitia James, within the Constituent Services Department. At the very first Annual Holiday Party that December, Angel DuBose was left abandoned in the rain after being kidnapped and assaulted by James and several members of her staff.

You didn’t know about this story? That’s exactly how Letitia James wanted it to be—hidden, erased, and forgotten. She suppressed DuBose’s testimony by calling her a “liar” which led to the New York Post publishing libelous content about DuBose. For 10½ years, Angel DuBose has been fighting for everyone to hear the truth.

What happened to Angel DuBose is a direct reflection of a broken justice system and the crooked politicians who gain power by appearing relatable. But there is nothing relatable about Letitia James—because there is nothing relatable about a female politician using her authority to dismantle the life of another Black woman.”

DuBose is seeking fundraising support for “Legal Representation, Documentary Production and launch; PR, Media and visibility; operations and safety; Living Stability During Campaign; Witness Support; narrative and documentation Team; and Contingency and emergency Fund.”

Parlato described his report as the first in an anticipated series on The Frank Report covering DuBose’s legal effort.
