Who wants a job? New York police department extends exam application deadline

ITHACA, NY - The Ithaca Police Department has announced that it is extending its exam application dealine to meet increased recruiting demands. The agency has 15 open positions and is expecting several retirements in the coming months. Tom Condzella, President of the Ithaca Police Benevolent Association, is encouraging those aspiring to become law enforcement professionals to consider applying to the unique and beautiful community of Ithaca PD, which has many opportunities on the job as well as off. 

With this increased demand, the application window now closes at 4:30 p.m. eastern time on Monday, August 7, 2023.
 

"Nestled at the southern tip of Cayuga Lake in the beautiful Finger Lakes Region of Central New York," writes Mark Treglio of NEP Media, "Ithaca is a vibrant community best known for being the home of Cornell University.  It is an area that provides numerous opportunities for outdoor adventure and recreational activities, making it an ideal place for those aspiring to have a career in law enforcement.

"Officers also have the ability to grow through many training opportunities including, but not limited to, emergency driving, EMT, firearms, defensive tactics, procedural justice, reality-based training, and more."

As far as pay, after just three years of service, officers in Ithaca earn an annual salary of $89,884. Additionally, Treglio said, "Ample overtime opportunities are available along with health and dental benefits, wellness program, 20 year New York State Police & Fire Retirement System pension benefit, free membership to 'The Gym' (2 locations in Ithaca), and access to the NYS Deferred Compensation Plan." Blue Cross/Blue Shield healthcare benefits are also available.
