NYC: Knife-Wielding Man Crashes 'Miami Vice' Film Set, Gets Arrested By Real Cops

BROOKLYN, NY - A film crew working on the filming of “Miami Vice 85” in Brooklyn, N.Y. on Friday got more than they bargained for when a knife-wielding man got into an altercation with a crew member, police said.

The New York Post reported that Alex Perez, 23, was arrested for disrupting the production crew near Bay Parkway and McDonald Avenue at around 11:15 p.m., the NYPD told the outlet.

Police said Perez allegedly pulled out a knife during a verbal dispute with a 43-year-old production staffer, who told police he feared for his safety.

“The individual was then taken into custody without incident, and the knife was recovered,” the NYPD said.

According to TMZ, Perez was accused of brandishing a large butcher knife during the incident. Perez, a Brooklyn resident, was charged with second-degree menacing and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

TMZ obtained an exclusive video showing Perez being escorted off the set by a staffer after removing a knife from his sweatshirt pocket. He was arrested by an NYPD officer who was at the scene. Perez also allegedly spouted the N-word at the production member while he was handcuffed.

Perez has five prior arrests for gang-related offenses, including assault with a firearm and burglary, among a host of others.

“Miami Vice 85” is a takeoff on the 1980s television show of the same name. It stars Michael B. Jordan as Ricardo Tubbs, originally played by Philip Michael Thomas, while Austin Butler takes on the role of James “Sonny” Crockett, originally played by Don Johnson. “Miami Vice,” which followed two undercover detectives fighting criminals in South Florida, aired on NBC from 1984 to 1989. The film has been in production in New York City and is set to be released sometime in 2028.
