NEW YORK, NY - After a special closed-door meeting with Trump Administration Border Czar Tom Homan, Democrat and former NYPD Captain Eric Adams has reportedly agreed to reactivate the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Offices situated and the main jail serving the five-boroughs of New York: Rikers Island.
The Rikers Island complex, located in the East River between Queens and the Bronx consists of ten jails and a sophisticated mental institution, and will now play host to federal agents from ICE as well.
According to The New York Post, Adams indicated in a statement released Thursday told reporters that he was considering an executive order to reinstate ICE facilities on the island shuttered since 2014 under his predecessor Bill de Blasio. Adams reportedly plans to mandate that the agents there focus on illegal immigrant criminals and gangs.
“We are now working on implementing an executive order that will reestablish the ability for ICE agents to operate on Rikers Island – as was the case for 20 years,” Adams said. “But now, instead ICE agents would specifically be focused on assisting the correctional intelligence bureau in their criminal investigations, in particular those focused on violent criminals and gangs.”
The meeting with Homan lasted approximately ninety minutes and was preceded by the Border Czar meeting with members of the City Council to hear their concerns as well. He told Newsmax the decision by Adams was a “good move,” before taking aim at detractors.
“A year ago we wouldn’t have this meeting,” he added. “I know [Illinois] Gov. [J.B.] Pritzker, who I have zero respect in, he’s even talking about, ‘Well, we should hand criminals over.’ Now [New York] Gov. [Kathy] Hochul, she came out after the violence here in New York City saying, ‘Well… criminal aliens should be removed. Well, I can’t do it if you don’t want me in Rikers Island,” Homan explained. “I can’t do it with your sanctuary policies.”
In his Thursday statement, Adams seemed to be clearly on the same page as the Trump administration on the issue of illegal immigrant removal. “As I have always said, immigrants have been crucial in building our city and will continue to be key to our future success,” he said. “But we must fix our long-broken immigration system.”
“Since the spring of 2022, New York City has been forced to shoulder the burden of a national humanitarian crisis where more than 230,000 migrants have come to our city seeking support at a cost of approximately $7 billion, with little help from the previous administration,” Adams said according to the Post. “That is why I have been clear that I want to work with the new federal administration, not war with them, to find common ground.”

Good for Adams, he finally figured out there is a right way and a wrong way to do things, and now he is trying to correct his mistakes doing things the wrong way, I'll give him that much.

Since when can mayors and governors just decide to use "Executive Orders" instead of going through the proper channels? Even though Trump is using this for good reasons it needs to be STOPPED! Our own government has found a loop hole so THEY are now dictators! A US President can do this IF there is a state of emergency so they all declare a state of emergency and take control! This needs to be STOPPED!
