Pennsylvania House of Horrors Reveals Shackled and Beaten Little Girl

CHESTER COUNTY, PA – A 54-year-old man is slated to be sentenced to life without parole after reportedly accepting a plea bargain in connection with the death of his 12-year-old daughter, with prosecutors saying he systematically abused the child until her death through starvation and physical abuse.

On January 16th, the Chester County District Attorney’s Office announced that 54-year-old Rendell Hoagland has pleaded guilty to a series of charges including first-degree murder, conspiracy and kidnapping in relation to the death of his 12-year-old daughter Malinda who passed away back in May of 2024.

According to authorities, Hoagland called 911 during the early morning hours of May 4th, 2024, claiming at the time that his daughter had struck a tree while riding her bicycle. First responders who initially arrived at the home found the child unresponsive, with the DA’s office saying at the time she appeared “broken and barely alive.”

At the time of Malinda being admitted to the hospital, she reportedly weighed only 50 pounds and had at least six broken bones and numerous bruises all over her body. The child sadly passed away while undergoing surgery at the hospital.

Hoagland and the child’s stepmother, Cindy Warren, were arrested back in May 2024 under suspicion of attempted murder, but those charges were later upgraded after Malinda’s unfortunate passing. Investigators later learned that the young girl regularly endured abuse at the hands of her father and stepmother, sometimes being shackled to furniture and forced to perform strenuous exercises and often being deprived of food for days while suffering physical abuse.

Back in a July 2024 press conference regarding the case, District Attorney Christopher de Barrena-Sarobe stated, “It appears that Malinda was reprogrammed to accept abuse as part of her life. She would not report abuse because she was afraid of being beaten even more fiercely than she had been before.”

Another child who resided in the household, Warren’s biological 9-year-old, reportedly suffered no such abuse from either parent. However, records show Warren was previously convicted in 2009 for child endangerment regarding the death of her then-husband’s daughter and the abuse of her own son, which the conviction stemmed from her lying to police about her former husband’s abuse of the children.

With Hoagland’s case coming to a close, he’s slated to spend the rest of his life behind bars without the possibility of parole. As for his wife Warren, her trial is scheduled to begin on June 8th.
