Pennsylvania Baby Found With Extensive Bruising in Alleged Abuse Case

NORTHERN LANCASTER CO., PA- What makes incidents such as the following most disturbing is the fact that there are some couples out there who, for whatever reason, are unable to conceive. Then you have monsters like the following who are blessed with children and choose to abuse them.

According to Law & Crime, a Pennsylvania couple was arrested and are facing multiple child abuse-related charges after they were accused of assaulting their four-month-old son. Police said the baby was taken to the hospital suffering from bruises on his entire body, along with a split lip.

According to a report from the Northern Lancaster County Police Department (NLCRPD), Jessica Oster admitted to them that she admittedly “used too much force when placing a bottle into the baby’s mouth,” enough force to cause the infant’s lip to split open.

According to charging documents obtained by LNP/Lancaster Online, Oster originally said that she placed the bottle in the baby’s mouth and left him alone for 20 to 30 minutes, When she returned, she said she found him with the split lip. It was only later that she admitted using excessive force to shove the bottle into the baby’s mouth out of “frustration.”

The child was eventually transferred to the Hershey Medical Center (HMC), where the baby was transferred after being originally brought to UPMC Lititz Hospital in Warwick Township. On April 22, a nurse at UPMC Lititz told the NLCRPD about the boy’s injuries, including bruises from head to toe and a lacerated lip.

Medical staff at HMC told investigators from the NLCRPD that the boy had several bruises on his forehead and the side of his head, and a split lip requiring two stitches. The staff said the child shouldn’t have such injuries, and that a 4-month-old infant could not self-inflict such injuries.

Oster told police that the bruises may have been caused by the baby’s “bouncy seat”, or from when her husband, James Oster, bathes him. The couple told authorities that they frequently place the infant in a bouncy seat with a bottle propped up with a blanket while he’s feeding, and that he sleeps in the seat in the living room while they are in a nearby room, noting that is mostly where he sleeps.

According to a police officer, the seat had a strong odor of urine and there was a large urine stain that soaked through to the bottom of the seat.

When asked about the child’s bruises, James Oster told police the forehead bruises were likely caused from bathing the boy. He said he lays the child on his chest in the water and pulls his head back by gripping his forehead to prevent it from being submerged in the water.

A press release issued by the NLCRPD read as follows:

“On April 22nd, 2026, the Northern Lancaster County Regional Police Department received a call from UPMC Lititz Hospital regarding a potential child abuse case involving a 4-month-old child who had suspicious bruises and a split lip. During the investigation, detectives spoke with medical professionals who explained the injuries as a lip laceration, ecchymosis [large bruising], and laceration of the upper frenulum [portion inside upper lip connecting to gums]. There were also bruises and abrasions over the body.”

“As a result of the investigation, Jessica Oster was charged with aggravated assault (2 counts), simple assault, endangering the wlfare of children (2 counts) and recklessly endangering another person,” the release said.

“James Oster was charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, endangering the welfare of children (2 counts), and recklessly endangering another person.”

Bond was set at $75,000 each, which they were able to post.

Custody questions about the child were referred to the Lancaster County Children & Youth Agency. Lancaster Online reached out for comment, however the agency didn’t immediately reply.
