Pennsylvania Man Accused of Killing Pediatrician Allegedly Raped Woman Just Hours Earlier

EDGEWOOD, PA - A psychopath who allegedly killed a Pittsburgh pediatrician and critically injured his wife during a late-night home invasion is a suspect in the sexual assault of a woman just hours before the horrific murder.

The New York Post reports that Elijah Hemingway, 32, is suspected of sexually assaulting a woman as she was walking on a path connected to an alley in Wilkinsburg, PA, the Allegheny County Police Department wrote in a Saturday Facebook post.

Police allege Hemingway stole the woman's cellphone during the incident. The sexual assault was random, and the suspect and victim did not know each other.

Wilkinsburg authorities notified Allegheny County police, who investigated the sexual assault in concert with the Pittsburgh murder.

The department said it recovered "multiple items connecting Hemingway to the reported sexual assault, along with the victim's cell phone that was reported stolen during the incident."

Allegheny County police consulted with the district attorney's office and filed additional charges against Hemingway, including rape, sexual assault, and robbery.

Police allege that Hemingway entered a home in Edgewood, which is located close to Wilkinsburg, where he stabbed a couple while they were sleeping early Thursday morning. That attack led to the death of Dr. Idris Evans, 46, who was pronounced dead at an area hospital after being transported by first responders.

Police said Hemingway was wearing only underwear when he attacked the couple. Evans' wife, Gina, told detectives that Hemingway appeared "psychotic" and claimed he was "God" during the attack, The Post reported.

She told police she yelled for their children, aged 8 and 12, to get out of the house while the couple fought back.

The attack may not have been random, and Evans may have known his attacker. Gina told detectives that during the attack, her husband referred to the attacker as "Elijah," as if he knew him, a police report noted.

Authorities, however, told KDKA that they cannot confirm if Evans did, in fact, know his attacker. Evans' wife told police she did not know the attacker and did not know how he was able to gain entry to their home.

Police said Hemingway's account of what happened did not line up with their investigation. He claimed Evans had invited him back to the home earlier that evening and allowed him inside, the police report said. He claimed Evans attacked him with a knife and that he had suffered a stab wound to his back.

Police said there was no evidence of a stab wound on Hemingway.

He has been hit with numerous charges, including criminal homicide, aggravated assault, burglary, and trespassing, among others. Court records revealed that Hemingway has a criminal history dating back to 2016. He was released without bail in July related to a February burglary. In his past dealings, he engaged in some bizarre, erratic behavior, as shown below:
