MIAMI, FL - A man in his forties was arrested after allegedly stabbing his girlfriend 34 times following an argument where she attempted to end their relationship.

The alleged suspect, 40-year-old Leisnier Mauri Garcia, has been charged with attempted felony murder with a deadly weapon, following a domestic violence incident, according to jail records reviewed by PEOPLE. The charge stems from an incident that occurred on Sunday, June 21, involving Garcia and his girlfriend of approximately six months.

According to an arrest affidavit, Garcia and his girlfriend, who was not identified in the court documents, rented an Airbnb near the beach and planned to go to dinner at a nearby restaurant. The girlfriend then received a text message from the father of her child, which Garcia saw, causing an argument between the two that ultimately led to her telling Garcia that she wanted to break up.

Police said the pair went back to their Airbnb to collect their items and went back to the car, at which point Garcia told the woman that he needed to go back inside to retrieve an item he had forgotten. He returned to the car and "insisted on sitting in the rear passenger seat," which the woman told police was "unusual."

"Without warning, [Garcia] produced a knife from the rear seat and began stabbing her multiple times from behind,” the arrest affidavit stated. “The victim stated she immediately opened the driver's side door in an attempt to escape the attack. The victim exited the vehicle while pleading with [Garcia] to stop."

The woman sustained 34 stab wounds all over her upper body, including on her neck. She was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Garcia was also treated at a hospital for cuts and abrasions to his hands.

The woman told police she had a "generally good" relationship with Garcia, whom she had been seeing since December 2025, but "there were occasions" where he "would become aggressive toward her." She also reportedly told officers that during a "previous breakup," which lasted approximately two months, Garcia "attempted to assault her," according to the arrest affidavit.

Garcia is currently being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center without bond.
