SARASOTA, FL - In a statement published on Sep. 11th, Sam A. Cabral, President of the International Union of Police Associations, AFL-CIO condemned the narrative forwarded by widespread reports that “law enforcement nationwide condemn Fraternal Order of Police’s endorsement of Trump.”
Cabral reiterated the Union's endorsement of President Donald Trump released in February, and the similar endorsement of the Fraternal Order of Police last week. One day later, Kyle S. Reyes, owner of the 1776 Project which runs Law Enforcement Today, Blue Lives Matter, and The Police Tribune, offered an unequivocal endorsement of President Trump as well.
In the Wednesday press release from the I.U.P.A., the union stated, "In February, the I.U.P.A. unanimously endorsed the candidacy of Donald Trump. We were followed by the national Association of Police Organizations, N.A.P.O. Last week, the Fraternal Order of Police made a similar endorsement. This means that EVERY major law enforcement organization that represents the law enforcement officers on the street, protecting your communities, have endorsed Mr. Trump."
Cabral cited an ABC11 report regarding Durham County Sheriff Clarence Birkhead, titled, "Law enforcement nationwide condemn Fraternal Order of Police's endorsement of Trump," which reported that Birkhead and over 100 law enforcement officials nationwide condemned the FOP's endorsement, and instead endorsed Vice President and Democrat nominee Kamala Harris.
Cabral responded, "Like so much of today’s media’s take on events, this is an outright lie. Sheriff Birkhead represents no one but himself. Police Chiefs and Sheriffs are not Law Enforcement Officers. They are leaders, some elected and some appointed, every one a politician – nothing more."
The I.U.P.A. President continued, "The cops on the street are the ones facing the consequences of political decisions, catering to progressive ideals, rather than protecting our most vulnerable citizens. They deal with the consequences of open borders, recidivism, no bail policies, and the decriminalization of what they consider 'minor crimes.' As of April, this year, ninety-eight of them have been shot. Ninety-seven have lost their lives in the line of duty."
He observed that Harris, "has supported removing police officers from our schools," and suggested that view would "taint the support" of a sheriff considering recent school shootings, but added, "Then again, he is a politician."
Cabral concluded by saying "Kamala Harris would be an absolute nightmare for the safety of our schools, our communities, and for the safety of the brave men and women who provide it."
Kyle S. Reyes, writing for Law Enforcement Today wrote to President Trump, saying in part, “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Ephesians 6:12
"I’m writing to you on behalf the nearly five million followers of Law Enforcement Today, Blue Lives Matter and The Police Tribune. It is my great and humble honor to publicly announce our endorsement of you to once again return to the White House as the President of the United States of America."
Reyes made it clear that the narrative of “law enforcement nationwide condemn(ing)" the FOP endorsement is a fallacy explaining, "Our organization is guided by a Board of Advisors comprised of the heads of the largest police organizations in America. They also represent the men and women who fight evil every single day, working to hold the thin blue line and keep our communities and our families safe."
"There’s zero question that you are the ONLY candidate who will fight alongside our protectors of this great nation."
Note: In the initial I.U.P.A. press release Sheriff Birkhead was incorrectly identified as being Sheriff of Durham, Georgia. He is in fact: Sheriff of Durham County, North Carolina.
