PORTLAND, OR - The Portland police chief actually cried over two people shot by Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) agents after they tried to run them down. In a twist that will come as a shock to practically no one who's been paying attention, both have been confirmed to have ties to the violent Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua, officials said.
The BBC reports that according to very sensitive police chief Bob Day, both suspects had “some involvement” with TdA; however, he did not elaborate.
Federal officials said that a CBP agent was forced to shoot at the pair after the driver attempted to run him over during a traffic stop. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said both were gang members who “weaponized their vehicle against Border Patrol,” a tactic that has become increasingly more common.
Day, almost with a sigh of relief after shedding tears over the pair, said they were reported as conscious in a local hospital and “on the road to recovery.”
Day actually choked back tears as he spoke about the two gang bangers, The New York Post reported. He said he was hesitant to disclose the pair’s gang ties, complaining about the “historic injustice of victim blaming,” while noting the shooting remains under investigation.
So again, we have a chief of police, much like the DEI sheriff of Philadelphia County in Pennsylvania, who automatically takes the side of illegal aliens, in this case criminal gang members, over fellow law enforcement officers. “Victim blaming?” As if these two were just walking down the street and were accosted by border patrol agents, as opposed to why they were really shot…trying to run down federal law enforcement officials.
“I want to speak for just a moment, specifically, to my Latino community,” Day said, choking back tears, according to Fox News Digital. “It saddens me that we even have to qualify these remarks because I understand, or at least have attempted to understand your voices, your concern, your fear, your anger,” Day said, removing his glasses and wiping away crocodile tears.
“This information, in no way, is meant to disparage or to condone or support or agree with any of the actions that occurred yesterday,” Day added.
Can you imagine working for this guy? Put yourself in the position of a Portland police officer who had to use deadly force against a Venezuelan gang member under similar circumstances. Do you think for a minute this crybaby is going to have your back? Not for a minute.
Day was sure to add that disclosing the Venezuelan gang ties was for “transparency” only and is not to be interpreted as excusing or justifying the shooting by CBP.
He added that he was “grateful” that the two gang-affiliated criminal illegals were “on the road to recovery.”
On Friday, DHS identified the wounded as the driver, Luis David Nino-Moncada, an illegal who entered the U.S. in 2022 and has previously been arrested for DUI and unauthorized use of a vehicle.
The passenger, Yorlenys Betzabeth Zambrano-Contreras, entered the U.S. illegally in 2023 near El Paso, Texas.
According to DHS, the latter “played an active role in a Tren de Aragua prostitution ring and was involved with a prior shooting in Portland.”
It is completely understandable why Day would cry over such an upstanding individual.
While the media initially reported that the two were married, DHS clarified that this was incorrect.
The incident began when agents identified themselves during a traffic stop, and the driver attempted to run them down.
Fearing for his life and safety, an agent fired a defensive shot. The driver then drove off, but stopped at an apartment complex and called for emergency medical assistance. They were then transported to a local hospital.
Thus far, no criminal charges have been filed against Moncada or Contreras.
This followed a Thursday incident in Minneapolis in which an anti-ICE radical attempted to run down an ICE agent, striking him in the process. The agent fired a defensive shot and struck the female, killing her. The incident served as an impetus for leftist radicals and far-left politicians to protest in the latest outrage of the week.
