South Carolina Police Chief Pushes Back on Viral Fight Videos

GREENVILLE, SC – Following a spat of viral videos circulating online depicting fights in the downtown Greenville area, the local police chief is assuring the public that despite the concerning nature of the videos in question, what’s depicted is not representative of the overall common culture of the city.

Earlier in August, reports began circulating over concerns about videos of fights taking place in the downtown area of Greenville that have been making the rounds on social media. According to said reports, some of the brawls seen online appear to have occurred around Brown and Coffee Streets, with residents being astonished when the local Fox News outlet shared some of the videos with them during streetside interviews.

One man stated after seeing one of the videos, “It actually looked like a cage match. I’m so embarrassed by seeing that,” with another local saying, “It breaks my heart. I’ve seen a few of them, but not this bad. It’s getting worse every couple of months.”

While the local Fox News outlet didn’t broadcast any of the fight videos in question, users of the social media platform X have been posting and sharing said videos, with one video from August 11th harboring over 1 million views and thousands of interactions.

Greenville Police Chief Howie Thompson is aware of the videos that have been circulating online but has been working to assure the public that what’s shared on social media isn’t an honest depiction of the day-to-day life in the city’s downtown area.

When addressing both the viral videos and an August 19th burglary at the Lululemon located on South Main Street, Chief Thompson stated, “The recent fights and a burglary at a downtown business - each of which occurred in the early morning hours in the past two weeks - do not reflect a larger trend in Greenville.”

While the Greenville Police chief maintains that Greenville is largely a safe city, his department is taking the recent “incidents seriously,” promising an increase in patrol units monitoring the downtown area.

“With that said, we take these incidents seriously and have implemented additional measures over the past two weeks, including an increased presence of both uniformed and plainclothes officers,” Chief Thompson stated, adding, “This weekend, residents and visitors will continue to see an increased police presence downtown.”

The investigation into the Lululemon burglary is still ongoing with no suspects apprehended or publicly identified as of this writing.

The fact that it occurs in any part of the city is a testament to the puppet chief being a worthless POS at his job.
