2A Watch: Mom of four who fatally shot 14-year-old intruder faces eviction as her case heads to a Texas grand jury

FORT WORTH, TX - On December 14th, 25-year-old Aleah Wallace was cleaning her living room around 3:00 a.m. when she heard someone attempting to break into one of her daughter's bedroom window.

Wallace, who spoke with FOX 4, said that she purchased a gun to protect her family after a handful of break-ins started happening over the last few weeks. She said, "I was cleaning my living room, sweeping my floor and I heard my window start going back up. So, I went and I stood in the hallway and I could see him standing at the window, lifting it up. I just shot."

The intruder has been identified as 14-year-old Devin Baker, who was at the bedroom window of Wallace's eight-year-old daughter in the early morning hours. It was the second time Wallace's house had been targeted by burglars in less than 24 hours.

Baker reportedly lived with his family at the same apartment complex. He died at the scene from multiple gunshot wounds. Before purchasing the gun to protect her family, Wallace said that there were four attempted burglaries on her home. She said, "I have four daughters. It's just me and my four daughters that stay there. I just was protecting my daughters."

At the time of the shooting, she did not know the age of the intruder, adding, "It's bothering me that he was a kid ... but, I had to think about my babies. I didn't know he was 14 when he was on the other side of that window. All I knew was that somebody could come in and hurt me or my kids. That's it."

Police have not filed any charges and have instead sent the case to a grand jury.

As she awaits to hear on charges, she learned that she is being evicted from the property, which is subsidized housing, for owning a gun. She said, "The apartments called and told me that I was not supposed to have a gun at all, even though I kept calling them and telling them somebody was breaking in. They told me I could not have a gun, and I have 30 days to vacate."

FOX 4 reported that there were no laws stating that residents in government-subsidized housing could not have a gun and there were no signs forbidding it posted on the property. Now, Wallace fears that this eviction could prevent her from finding other housing. She said, "I feel like I'm back at square one. I was there for six years, and now I don't know what to do."

As the case heads to a Texas grand jury, Wallace says she wants people to know that she was just protecting her family. She said, "I have four daughters. It's just me and my four daughters that stay there. I just was protecting my daughters. I'm devastated that he was 14. I hate that. I literally do. And I'm so sorry, but at that point, I had to think about my babies. I didn't know he was 14 when he was on the other side of that window. All I knew was that somebody could come in and hurt me or my kids. That's it."

Wallace has created a GoFundMe to raise money to help her family get back on their feet. As of this writing, it has raised more than $65,000. In the caption, she wrote, in part, "...I was forced to defend myself and my daughters, and this situation would result in the unfortunate death of a young man. This situation alone has been very traumatic for my family, but in addition to this, I have been evicted from my apartment for exercising my Second Amendment rights."

This woman is a hero. I hope she sues the pants off the woke owner of the apartment building illegally evicting her. She is completely justified in shooting this 14 year old piece of garbage. 10 year olds are capable of murder and this 14 year old wasn't on his way for skittles at 3am via her window.

Rick

You are completely correct. She took care of her own. In addition to suing for 2A violation, she should also sue for the property manager for taking no action to stop the rash of break-ins and, by his actions, ensured residents could not protect themselves in essence promoting them.

I Agree with you Mark.

She should refuse to move. The people behind this stupid decision should get robbed and see what they would do. The people that should be evicted is the dead jerks family. Glad she defended her children like a parent should do. God bless her and her family.
