SAN ANTONIO, TX - Authorities with the San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) have arrested a man who police said used social media to target, kidnap, and sexually abuse a woman.
According to KSAT, police arrested 47-year-old Jamie Ray Rencher on December 31, 2024, and have charged him with aggravated kidnapping with intent to sexually abuse. Police said that Rencher used a social media app to get in contact with the victim and schedule an in-person meeting in the Houston area. After he met the victim, officers said that he destroyed the victim's phone, tied her up, and sexually assaulted her.
SAPD said that Rencher then transported the woman back to San Antonio with the intent to keeo the victim hidden. However, the woman was able to escape and find help. Court documents indicate that Rencher's aggravated kidnapping with intent to sexually abuse charge is a first-degree felony. Police said that additional charges could be filed against the suspect.
Investigators also said they believe there may be more victims connected to Rencher. The investigation into this remains ongoing. Rencher was booked into the Bexar County Adult Detention Center just after 10:30 a.m. on January 1st. A Bexar County judge set Rencher's bond at $250,000. According to reports, court records show that Rencher has two prior arrests for assault.
The Alamo Area Rape Crisis Center said coming forward as a victim of sexual assault can be a very difficult process. Laura Aguillon, the digital media and community outreach coordinator at the center, said victims should remember it takes time. She said, "You're never alone. You can always contact us even if you're not ready to get any help or services. Maybe you just need someone to talk to." The center's 24-hour hotline is 210-349-7273.
Anyone with information on Rencher or anyone who recognizes him is asked to contact SAPD's Special Victims Unit at 210-207-2313. Callers can remain anonymous.
In a separate incident, a man is in custody after a 15-year-old girl told school officials about a series of sexual assaults that took place in 2024. According to 101now, officers in Lincoln, Nebraska, arrested 19-year-old Joe Brummett on Tuesday, January 7th. He has been charged with a single count of first-degree sexual assault.
His arrest comes months after a teen spoke with school officials back on October 24, 2024. A few days after the reporting, the girl went in for a forensic interview. Investigators learned she'd been living with a family friend earlier in the year, later identified as Brummett. At the time, the girl though Brummett was 17-years-old.
Brummett and the girl got into a relationship, but she tried ending it once discovering Brummett was actually 19-years-old. By then, police said multiple sexual assaults had occurred. Police believe Brummett became manipulative to extent the relationship once the teen found out his real age. He appeared in court on Wednesday, January 8th, for an arraignment. His bond was set at 10 percent of $400,000. His next court date is set for February 12th.
