Best in the Vest: The True Reality of the Border Crisis

In today's polarized climate, it's easy to overlook the everyday acts of heroism and compassion displayed by our law enforcement officers, especially those who have held the line across our nation’s southern borders in Texas and Arizona.

Law Enforcement Today paid a visit to several men and women in law enforcement, and proudly highlighted them in “Guardians of the Divide”, the latest episode of the “Best In The Vest” series brought to you by InVest USA.  “Best In The Vest” is a series that highlights the real life men and women who get up each day and go out with the mission to make a difference.

In this episode, we begin the journey in McAllen, Texas along the shores of the Del Rio as Chris Carbrera tells the shocking truth about the border crisis, “We don’t have an Opioid problem right here in the Rio Grande Valley, it’s coming through here, but we don’t have that problem.  We don’t have a meth problem, but it’s coming through here.  But it’s going to your neighborhood.  We don’t have an MS-13 problem, it’s in Virginia, Maryland, and DC.  It comes through here, but it’s not staying here.”

Meanwhile in Arizona, the same battle rages on.

On scene just outside of Tucson, National Border Patrol VP Art Del Cueto shows the evidence of how serious the situation is.  All around, piles of dusty clothes, blacked out water bottles, and “carpet shoes” are left as signs of the ongoing invasion.  The wall at this area stands just knee high to the grown men.  This is NOT a secure border, and one simple sign giving warning to the dangers that lie ahead for those who venture past it does nothing to stop the ongoing onslaught of trespassers.

These men and women aren’t just boots on the ground, though.  Meet Trooper Jaclyn Gooding, with Texas DPS.  “You’re tough enough, you’re smart enough, and you’re needed.  And you will make the change you want to see.”

These men and women, and many others, tell their sacrifices to ensure our protection.  Their needs for judicial reform to protect us all, their equipment needs to enable better job performance, the history of their struggles and success, and the need to provide greater care for the effects of the job and overall mental wellness.

In an era where law enforcement faces unprecedented scrutiny, it's crucial to highlight and support initiatives that bridge the gap between officers and the communities they serve.
