NEW YORK, NY - Daniel Jean, 38; Kirt Acala, 38; and Edward Chou, 40, three U.S. postal workers, are facing indictment on charges that the three kidnapped one of their colleagues with the intent to sexually assault her in June 2023. Jean is facing rape charges in addition to the kidnapping.
The attack, as reported by The New York Post, is alleged to have occurred on June 8, 2023, during an after-work party in the East Village area of Manhattan, according to an indictment filed with the New York State Supreme Court on Wednesday. The filing alleges that the men dragged their unconscious female coworker into the back of a mail truck to rape her.
Per the Post, the victim told police in a statement that she experienced wooziness and lost consciousness during a birthday party held at the 14th Street Post Office and that her three attackers descended upon her. Incapacitated and unable to so much as lift her head, she told police that she was molested by Jean inside the Post Office itself before being dragged with the assistance of Chou and Acala to the mail truck.
It was in the back of the vehicle that Jean allegedly attempted to rape the woman.
District Attorney Alvin Bragg told reporters outside the court, “As alleged in this indictment, these three postal workers dragged their incapacitated colleague out of a post office and into a mail truck, where one attempted to rape her.”
When NYPD Officers arrived, they found Alcala and Chou seated in the front of the vehicle, according to WPIX. The two men refused the officer’s request to open the back when officers heard banging and cries for help. Jean then emerged with his pants unzipped. The victim was reportedly found in the back of the truck with her pants unzipped, court documents revealed.
Alcala and Chou are facing charges of Kidnapping in the second degree and Kidnapping in the second degree as a sexually motivated felony. Jean however, faces much more extensive charges including: Attempted Rape in the first degree, Kidnapping in the second degree, Kidnapping in the second degree as a sexually motivated felony, Sexual Abuse in the first degree, Attempted sexual abuse in the first degree, and Forcible touching.
