Minnesota Governor Calls Somali Fraud Investigations “White Supremacy”

SAINT PAUL, MN – Minnesota Governor Tim Walz has been working to push back against the fraud allegations within his state that has captured national attention in recent weeks. The former vice presidential-hopeful’s attempts to distance himself from said criticism has ranged from claims his administration has been working “for years” combatting such fraud to boldly stating that investigating alleged fraudsters in the Somali community is an act of “white supremacy.”

In the wake of YouTuber Nick Shirley’s viral video digging into the alleged fraud taking place in Minnesota, in tandem with ongoing official investigations and criminal trials and convictions, Governor Walz has been hard at work to redeem his public image.

Having been dubbed “a disaster for Minnesotans” by USA Today earlier in December, the scrutiny Governor Walz has been facing doesn’t appear to be letting up anytime soon, with his methods to get ahead of the matter doing little to improve public perception.

In a statement shared with Fox News by a spokesperson from Governor Walz’s office, the spokesperson alleged that Walz’s administration has “worked for years” to address entitlement and services fraud ongoing within Minnesota.

“The governor has worked for years to crack down on fraud and ask the state legislature for more authority to take aggressive action. He has strengthened oversight,” the statement reads, adding, “including launching investigations into these specific facilities, one of which was already closed.”

In the days preceding Shirley’s viral video which has been viewed over 100 million times across various social media platforms, Governor Walz asserted that the likes of immigration crackdowns and investigating fraud allegedly propelled largely by Somalians within Minnesota is indicative of “white supremacy.”

“So, this is what happens when your own federal government wages war against you. This is what happens when they target communities for their own benefit. This is what happens when they scapegoat,” Governor Walz said before a crowd of supporters on December 23rd, adding, “And this is what happens when they no longer hide the idea of white supremacy.”
