Two suspects assault man in a wheelchair, attempt pouring bleach down his throat

DETROIT, MI - Prosecutors have confirmed that a man and a woman are facing charges for allegedly assaulting a disabled man, leaving him with a cranial bleed and a head fracture.

According to FOX2, 35-year-old Brittany Walker and 62-year-old Samuel Payton, both of Detroit, allegedly got into an argument with the 44-year-old victim at an apartment in the 19600 block of Conant Street on the afternoon of January 29th. The verbal altercation escalated into an assault. The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office said that during the assault, Walker and Payton tried to pour bleach down the throat of the victim, who was in a wheelchair.

The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment of a cranial bleed and a left orbital fracture. In February, Walker and Payton were arrested and charged with numerous felonies. Walker has been charged with torture, first-degree vulnerable adult abuse, assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder, assault with a dangerous weapon, and assault.

Payton has been charged with torture and assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder. Both of the bonds have been set at $1 million. They are scheduled to appear next in court on May 28th, as reported by the New York Post

In a separate incident, a Crown Heights man is facing charges of second-degree assault and aggravated menacing after attacking a man in a wheelchair as he was taking his dogs out for a walk on March 29th. According to News12, the victim, Troy McLeod said that the dispute began when 30-year-old Levi Kabakov believed McLeod's two dogs were bothering his children and he demanding McLeod cross the street, which he did.

McLeod said that the suspect then came out of his home and began acting aggressively towards him. Police said that Kabakov struck McLeod with a wooden block and a bench from his yard, before pushing him out of his wheelchair. McLeod said, "I was scared. I was trying to get back up. I was in shock and thank God someone was there. It felt like a vengeful vibe to be because to the extent of the situation there was no need for it."

McLeod said his two dogs were wearing muzzles at the time of the attack; they stayed still during the duration of the attack. He said, "My dogs are well trained and even as he was violating me you can see they did not involve themselves to hurt him."

He said that the attack has left him with chronic pain from being thrown to the ground and from being struck in the hands. He said he hopes Kabakov takes responsibility and that the attack can serve as a reminder that there is no excuse to turn to violence. Kabakov was arraigned on March 30th and was released without bail. He has his next court appearance on July 17th.
