EL PASO, TX - It was reported last week that the Mexican Senate unanimously approved the United States Army’s 7th Special Forces Airborne Group (Green Berets) to train the Mexican Navy as early as this week. President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo requested the vote to take place.

The unit will be fully armed in order to train the Mexican Navy’s Infantería de Marina (marine infantry) through March 30 Campeche State at the Luis Carpizo naval facility. The infantry will be trained on both conventional and non-conventional types of combat.

Sen. Alejandro Moreno Cardenas, president of the Mexican Senate’s Naval Ministry Commission, said that the American unit will land in a C-130 airplane at the facility two days before training begins.

According to News Nation, the Special Forces group has assisted in peacekeeping operations in multiple nations prior to their expected campaign in Mexico, to include Panama, Peru and Ecuador, and they were also deployed to Afghanistan.

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo and President Trump have been in talks since the inauguration of the latter to find ways to stop the smuggling of illegal immigrants, guns, and drugs across the Mexico/US border. President Trump recently designated the Mexican cartels that promote human and drug smuggling as  Foreign Terrorist Organizations.

Scott Stewart, vice president of intelligence for international security consultant TorchStone Global, released a statement on the operation. “It’s important to say the Green Berets’ role is going to be just that: Training," he said. "It’s not like they’re sending in the SEALs, the Delta (Force) or the (Army) Rangers. It’s not like we are seeing the deployment of combat troops or combat aircraft.”

There has been social media posts floating on the internet saying that the military unit is heading to Mexico to help "take on" the cartels.

This, however, has not been reported in any news outlet. It appears that the move is part of the truce between Mexico and the US, which is also set to expire at the end of March. This truce helps Mexico avoid hefty tarriffs while allowing the US to train Mexican authorities on better ways to stop illegal activity from crossing over the border.

In Juarez, Mexican soldiers have also started to check cars heading into the US, adding pressure to the cartels.

The last time we did this, we trained and armed what would become one of the best trained and armed cartels in Mexico. Yeah, let's do it again!

They better go in prepared for a fight! The cartels have everything to lose! Trust nobody! Even Madame President! Maybe she's having the USA train the cartel members for her?!
