APPALACHIA, VA – The 46-year-old Union High School football coach who went missing in November of 2025 during the onset of an investigation into child pornography and sexual exploitation allegations had reportedly engaged in indecent communications with the underage victim for months prior to his disappearance, according to reports.
Union High School football coach Travis Turner was reportedly last seen wandering into a heavily wooded area near his Appalachia home on November 20th, 2025, while Virginia State Police were en route to his home to question him about the criminal allegations he’s currently facing.
Days after Turner’s disappearance, a warrant was secured for his arrest on multiple charges of child pornography and solicitation of a minor, resulting in Turner being both classified as a missing person and a fugitive.
The family of a 16-year-old student at Union High School has since spoken out regarding the allegations against Turner, claiming the football coach had been sending explicit photos and messages to the underage girl over a three-month period prior to the allegations being reported to authorities.
School officials reportedly became aware of the alleged indecent communications between Turner and the juvenile after the child was apparently overheard in the school library talking about her purported text exchanges with Turner. According to the victim’s family, Union High School principal Jerred Chandler interviewed the child about the matter without informing her parents promptly about the allegations.
“First came the accusation, then the police became involved. Then Turner went missing. It was overwhelming,” the family insider told media outlet The Sun, adding that the school principal claimed the underage victim may have misrepresented herself to Turner during the illicit exchanges.
The underage victim, who has yet to be publicly identified, is reportedly in a “very depressive state” currently and has been subjected to bullying from her peers at school in the wake of Turner’s disappearance, according to family sources.
Officials have yet to provide any substantial updates in the search for Turner. As for Turner’s family, their last notable public statement on the matter defended the high school football coach, with his wife Leslie saying last November that her spouse is “a good dad and a good husband,” adding that she believes the accusations against him are false.
