Washington Police Search for Suspect After Woman Stabbed on Popular Trail

REDMOND, WA - Police in Redmond, Washington, are actively investigating a stabbing that reportedly occurred in broad daylight earlier in January along a popular trail in the area. The suspect is currently at large, with authorities confirming the victim did not personally know her attacker.

On January 24th, police responded to an area near the Bear Creek Trail in Redmond after a passerby on the trail called 911 at approximately 10:45 a.m., reporting “a woman down on the trail.” Officers arrived on scene within minutes of the call, with officials saying the victim had suffered multiple stab wounds.

Investigators say the victim, described only as a 50-year-old woman, was likely attacked minutes before the 911 call came in. First responders transported the woman to the Harborview Medical Center, where she was last listed as being in critical condition. Despite the severity of the victim’s injuries, police say the woman was able to answer some questions for detectives, including confirmation that she personally did not know her attacker.

The original 911 caller also remained on the scene as police were working the investigation, affording investigators a description of the suspect as being a male, possibly White or Asian, standing at roughly 5’9 with a slim build.

Officials say the suspect was last seen running from the scene of the incident, wearing a green hoodie or jacket with blue jeans and a black beanie or hat. Authorities say the unidentified suspect is considered to be armed and dangerous and are urging the public not to approach the individual.

The investigation is currently being treated as a random/unprovoked attack, with Redmond Police being assisted by Kirkland Police and the King County Sheriff’s Office, who also responded to the scene of the incident.

Given the seemingly random and violent nature of the incident, locals who frequent the trails in the area were reasonably alarmed, with some telling local news outlet KOMO News that they didn’t feel safe walking the trails for the remainder of the day.

Police are asking anyone with information on the incident or suspect to call 911 immediately.
