Washington State Bill Targeting ICE Agents Goes Down in Flames

OLYMPIA, WA - Law Enforcement Today recently reported on a Washington State bill proposed by a convicted felon, now a state representative, that would have prohibited ICE agents hired after January 20, 2021, from becoming police officers in the state.

Well, according to the Washington State Standard, that proposal has gone down in flames, at least for this legislative session. To be honest, it is unknown why anyone would want to be a police officer in any blue city or state, given their disdain for police.

House Bill 2641, proposed by Rep. Tarra Simmons, was scheduled to be taken up earlier this week by the House Community Safety Committee; however, the committee failed to take action, effectively killing the bill for this session.

In 2019, Simmons had her criminal record cleared thanks to a bill that made it easier to expunge criminal histories. Having been convicted of drug-related crimes approximately ten years ago, Simmons complained that the conviction made it impossible for her to volunteer at her kids’ schools, act as her mother’s medical proxy, and more.

Simmons was not happy that her attempt to confirm her ICE Delusion Syndrome failed.

“I’m not happy about it,” she said. “I felt we should’ve kept the conversation going.”

Simmons said she isn’t sure if she will take another run at the legislation next year, noting it depends on whether there is a change in immigration enforcement practices.

Washington Gov. Bob Ferguson said that while he had not read the bill, he was “open to it.”

Ferguson, who also seems to suffer from the anti-ICE pathogen, said, “I think I’ve been pretty clear: anything that’s addressing the situation with ICE, I’m more than happy to have a conversation.”

Maryland legislators are considering legislation similar to what Simmons' failed bill would have accomplished.

Meanwhile, other anti-ICE bills were approved by the Community Safety Committee, including House Bill 2648, which would require local police to activate their body-worn and vehicle dash cameras when encountering federal agents conducting immigration enforcement. In other words, Washington Democrats want to pit local police officers against federal immigration agents, much as what was proposed by leftist lunatic Mayor Katie Wilson of Seattle, who is pushing for Seattle cops to stalk ICE agents and report their activities.

The state legislation would require officers to report any ICE activity to their agency so the public could be notified.

That bill’s sponsor, Rep. Mary Fosse, said the measure “provides clarity and the boundaries that will help our law enforcement do their jobs effectively, ethically, in a way that respects civil rights.”

Republicans were opposed to the bill.

“We should have observers to keep law enforcement accountable for anything that they might be doing that is not right,” said Rep. Jenny Graham, a Spokane Republican (in opposition to the bill). “However, there is a difference between observing and interfering or becoming physical themselves.”

Washington State’s Senate passed a measure last week that bans all law enforcement officers from covering their faces, a measure that is bound to draw the attention of the Trump administration, which has sued California over a similar policy.

The administration argues that unmasking officers puts them and their families in danger from unhinged leftists who will likely learn their identities and dox them. It also appears to violate the Supremacy Clause of the United States Constitution, which states that federal law supersedes state and local laws and ordinances.
