CHICAGO, IL - Another weekend, another group of Chicago residents victimized by gunfire.
Fox 5 Atlanta reports that a shooting on Saturday on the South Side of Chicago resulted in one man dead and 13 others injured, police said.
According to the Chicago Police Department, officers were at the 5400 block of S. Cottage Grove at around 11:37 p.m. to disperse a large crowd when gunfire erupted.
Police said a 35-year-old man, who was shot multiple times, was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he succumbed to his wounds.
The injured included:
34-year-old man, shot in the right shoulder, transported to University of Chicago Medical Center, listed in good condition;
39-year-old man shot in the right leg and arm, transported to Stroger Hospital and listed in good condition;
40-year-old woman, shot in the right shoulder, transported to Stroger Hospital, and listed in good condition;
A 45-year-old woman shot in the left leg, self-transported to St. Bernard Hospital and listed in good condition;
A 26-year-old woman shot multiple times in the chest, transported to University of Chicago Hospital, and listed in good condition;
A 42-year-old man was shot in the leg and taken to University of Chicago Hospital and listed in good condition;
A 37-year-old woman was shot, unspecified location, unknown hospital, and condition;
A 23-year-old man was shot, unspecified location, unknown hospital, and condition;
A 35-year-old man was also shot, unspecified location, unknown hospital, and condition;
Later on Sunday morning, the Chicago PD identified five more victims
A 47-year-old woman, unknown wounds, taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, listed in serious condition;
A 23-year-old woman, unknown wounds, taken to University of Chicago Hospital, listed in fair condition;
A 43-year-old woman, unknown wounds, taken to University of Chicago Hospital, listed in fair condition;
A 21-year-old woman, unknown wounds, taken to University of Chicago Hospital, listed in fair condition;
A 44-year-old woman, unknown wounds, taken to University of Chicago Hospital, listed in fair condition.
Police said when they were on the scene trying to disperse a large gathering, an unknown group of shooters opened fire into the crowd. Police remain uncertain why the gathering took place. Police did not provide a description of the shooters and are investigating a motive.
Cook County Crime Stoppers is offering a cash reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to the arrest of the shooters.
“This senseless act of violence has devastated another Chicago community and left families dealing with unimaginable pain. One person lost their life, nine others were injured, and the individuals responsible must be held accountable,” said Paul Rutherford, executive director of Cook County Crime Stoppers, in a statement. “We are asking everyone in the community to do the right thing. If you know who was responsible, if you heard something, saw something, or have information that could help detectives, please come forward. You can remain completely anonymous. You don’t have to put yourself or your family at risk. Let Crime Stoppers be the middleman and help law enforcement get the information they need to solve this case.”
