Western Sheriffs Rally Behind Todd Blanche For Attorney General

WASHINGTON, DC – Following President Donald Trump’s nomination of Todd Blanche to serve as the next Attorney General earlier in June, the Western States Sheriffs’ Association (WSSA) voiced their support of Blanche’s nomination in a letter to the Senate citing his adherence to the rule of law, support of law enforcement and commitment to public safety.

On June 8th, President Trump formally sent Acting Attorney General Blanche’s nomination for the role to the Senate. While formalities associated with the confirmation process are actively underway, such as getting sign-off from the Judiciary Committee before a final vote goes to the Senate floor, Blanche is already receiving strong support from law enforcement across the country.

The WSSA, an organization consisting of sheriffs “west of the Mississippi River” devoted to critical national issues such as border security and preserving the Second Amendment, sent a letter to the Senate on June 13th sharing their endorsement of Blanche for the role of Attorney General.

With law enforcement officials spanning across 19 Western states, the WSSA was unambiguous in their conveyed endorsement of Blanche, highlighting “his focus on upholding the rule of law, supporting law enforcement, and prioritizing public safety.”

The WSSA also emphasized their appreciation of Blanche’s understanding of how collaboration at the state/local and federal level with regard to law enforcement is critical to ensuring public safety.

“We are particularly encouraged by his understanding of the vital role that state and local law enforcement play in our federal system and his willingness to work collaboratively to address issues such as violent crime, drug trafficking, illegal immigration, and threats to our communities,” the letter reads in part.

Before closing the letter with a call to action urging the Senate to swiftly confirm Blanche as Attorney General, the WSSA signaled their willingness to assist Blanche in his respective endeavors as Attorney General as it relates to matters ranging from border security to policies that behoove law enforcement across the country.

“WSSA members stand ready to partner with Attorney General Blanche to advance policies that empower Sheriffs, enhance officer safety and wellness, secure our borders, and ensure that federal resources are directed toward the real-world problems facing our counties and states. His leadership will help restore trust in federal law enforcement institutions and strengthen the critical partnerships that keep our communities safe.”
