Wisconsin Police Departments Launch Heartfelt Fundraisers for K9 Units

MANITOWOC, WI - The Manitowoc Police Department (MPD) has launched a fundraiser for its K9 unit that is fun and meaningful, selling plush versions of its K9s Riley and Rolo.

A Facebook post from MPD states that each plush pup costs $20 and 100% of the proceeds go directly to the department's K9 unit, WFRV reported.

Funds raised will contribute to the training, equipment, and overall care of the beloved K9s, according to the post on Facebook.

The plush pups can be purchased at MPD's front counter, located at 910 Jay Street. Payments can be made in cash, by credit card, or via checks made out to the City of Manitowoc - K9 Fund.

MPD thanks those who end up purchasing a plush pup and for supporting the dedicated K9s who help keep the community safe.

In Stevens Point, Wisconsin, the police department held its second annual Cruz with the Cops Car Show that was very successful in raising funds for its K9 unit, Metro Wire reported.

The fundraiser, which was held back on May 31st, brought in more than $22,000 for the city's K9 program.

The program is almost exclusively funded through donations.

"Everyone's support plays a crucial role in the continued success and operation of our K9 unit," SPPD Chief Bob Kussow said.

"Your contributions help us provide vital training, equipment, and care for our K9s, allowing them to serve and protect our community with the highest level of excellence."

During the event, off-duty officers and volunteers grilled donated burgers and brats for hundreds of attendees who came out to admire classic cars and bid on raffle baskets.

MPD and SPPD are not the only police departments in the country putting together unique fundraisers for its K9 units. In Vancouver, Washington, the police department hosted a car show at the Liberty Bible Church, KPTV reported. There were over 100 cars in attendance.

It was the Evergreen Mustangs' annual Muscle Car Mania show and while it was technically a competition, participants said it was a laid-back atmosphere, full of people admiring each other's cars. "No jealousy whatsoever," said Mickey Cummins, who owns a 1968 Chevy Camaro.

"Several other Camaros are here. They're just as pretty and we complement each other and enjoy it," he added.

The car show ran from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., and aside from getting to see the cars, spectators also got the chance to see a demonstration from some of the Vancouver Police Department's K9 officers.

Organizers said they raised nearly $5,000 so far, but expect to receive more donations over the coming weeks.
