NYC: Woman fighting for her life after being randomly stabbed in the neck with a broken bottle

NEW YORK CITY, NY - Authorities with the New York Police Department (NYPD) said that an unhinged man slashed a woman in her neck with a broken bottle during a horrific random attack in SoHo in the afternoon on Monday, April 7th.

According to the New York Post, police said that the 25-year-old victim was walking on the corner of Wooster and Broome streets when the man smashed a glass bottle, crept up behind her, and launched at her with the broken shards. The incident happened around 3:00 p.m., smack in the middle of the afternoon.

During a briefing, NYPD Assistant Chief James McCarthy said that the woman was rushed to Bellevue Hospital, where she will undergo surgery. At the time of arriving at the hospital, she was conscious and alert.

An eyewitness said, "She did not look good. She was bleeding from the neck and was pale as she was put in the ambulance." Authorities said that leading up to the unprovoked stabbing, the suspect threw the bottle at another woman, 29, and then picked up the pieces to target the 25-year-old victim.

The 29-year-old was not injured. The alleged attacker gave the cops a fake name. He was quickly apprehended by police near the scene. He was wearing an NYPD hoodie and gold chain at the time of his arrest. ABC7 reported that the man was eventually identified and is now facing multiple charges.

Police also said the attacker, identified as 46-year-old Muslim Brunson, is a recidivist. Brunson, who is homeless, has been charged with attempted murder, assault, and criminal possession of a weapon. Authorities said that Brunson has multiple prior arrests and was arrested back in 2022 for assaulting an off-duty NYPD employee.

In a separate incident, a man has been arrested for stabbing a woman and killing her cat in Killingly, Connecticut. According to WFSB, CT State Troopers have charged 26-year-old Mackenzie Anderson with malicious killing of an animal, disorderly conduct, second-degree assault with a weapon, first-degree reckless endangerment, and first-degree unlawful restraint.

The stabbing happened on March 29th. Upon arriving on scene, troopers found that Anderson had assaulted the victim and her pet cat. The arrest warrant states that Anderson had been staying with the victim when the two got into an argument. The victim told police that Anderson threatened to kill her.

When the victim told him to get out of the home, that's when she said he stabbed her with a folding knife multiple times. After she screamed for help, she said Anderson also screamed for help and claimed that the victim had actually stabbed him. Troopers said Anderson then put the knife in her hand and he then went into a bedroom. The victim fled across the street for help.

Anderson drove off in his pickup. When troopers interviewed Anderson, he told them that the victim actually stabbed herself with his knife. He also claimed that afterward, he fled in his truck and went directly to the police station.

Later, troopers were made aware of a number of domestic incidents that were never reported to law enforcement, including another incident that involved Anderson threatening to kill the victim. In another, the victim said that Anderson was upset that the cat had gotten hair on a blanket. She woke up the next morning to find the cat dead.

The warrant said he supposedly told her, "that's how I parent, and it's just an animal." State police said Anderson was arrested at the victim's home when he returned on April 3rd, after a neighbor reported seeing him there. He has been arrested and a $250,000 bond has been set.
