Got them: Arrests made in murder of Oakland police officer

OAKLAND, CA - The fatal shooting of an Oakland Police Officer was answered with the arrest of multiple suspects in connection to the murder according to new reporting from KTVU.

The arrest of 27-year-old Mark Sanders on Tuesday has been connected to the death of Officer Tuan Le, 36, who was killed in the line of duty while responding to reports of a burglary at a cannabis dispensary.

According to KTVU, Sanders has been booked on additional felony charges connected to the burglary after his arrest with the assistance of Livermore Police Department and U.S. Marshals Service San Francisco. 



The news broke first over the dispatch radio of Oakland PD ABC7 News reported, "Just wat to advise everybody that the killer of Officer Tuan le is in custody. Please take care of every...each one of you."

Information regarding the other arrests made has not been made public at the time of this writing.

Le, a four-year veteran of the Police department, was working in an undercover capacity and traveling in an unmarked vehicle when he was shot and killed by one of the suspects, Interim Police Chief Darren Allison told KTVU.



Barry Donelan, president of the Oakland Police Officers Association told ABC7 that in the aftermath of Le's murder, the OPD has been working nonstop to bring his killers to justice. 
 

"You are going to jail. You are going to be behind bars. We are going to find you," Donelan said. Following the arrests he praised the work of the OPD and "allied law enforcement agencies."

“Thank you to the members of the Oakland Police Department and allied law enforcement agencies who have worked tirelessly to bring about the swift arrests of suspects involved in our brother’s murder,” Donelan said according to SFGate“We continue to grieve along with Officer Le’s family but take solace from the progress of the investigation and the relentless pursuit of justice by the professional and dedicated members of the department.”

The Oakland Police Officers' Association confirmed to the outlet that U.S. Marshals arrested a "key suspect" at a Livermore, CA La Quinta Inn. KTVU reported that Sanders is being held without bail on a murder charge at Santa Rita Jail and is expected to make a court appearance Thursday morning.

Confidential sources told the outlet that at least two suspects have been arrested in the burglary. OPD would not confirm the arrest, but merely said several people have been arrested in connection with the murder of Officer Le.

In a post to Facebook, the department updated the public. “This is just the beginning of a lengthy legal process; we are hopeful that it will start the healing for Officer Le's grieving family and our entire OPD family,” the department said in a Facebook post. “We are committed to keeping you all informed throughout the investigation.”
