STATEN ISLAND, NY - Remember ancient history (two weeks ago) when Democrats said the country needed to come together? It's funny what losing an election in a landslide does to some people, with some Democrats retreating back to their partisan corner.
Staten Island City Councilwoman Kamillah Hanks, a Democrat, made the unthinkable mistake of liking a pro-Donald Trump statement on social media. Now, she is facing the wrath of her Democrat colleagues on the New York City Council, according to the New York Post.
It began when Vincent Ignizio, a Republican deputy executive director of the city Board of Elections, posted on his personal Facebook account after Donald Trump’s election victory, which read: “Popular vote 300+ electoral votes. Now bring our Country Together & truly Make America Great Again.” Hanks made the mistake of responding, “Well said.”
Unfortunately for Hanks, a triggered liberal Democrat saw the exchange and called her reply “tone deaf” and “a betrayal.”
The Democrat activist, who apparently has no intestinal fortitude, requested anonymity.
“At best, it’s tone-deaf. At worst, it’s a betrayal,” Mr. or Mrs. Anonymous said.
“A lot of people think Hanks is a closet Republican, and Donald Trump’s victory gives her a permission slip to walk out into the sunlight,” the activist complained.
Despite the criticism, Hanks remained resolute, dismissing the complaint as "absurd" in an interview with the New York Post.
"My response was about Trump having the opportunity to bring the country together,” she said. “It was more about that than the whole MAGA thing.
“People can stir the pot all they want,” Hanks continued while announcing that she had voted for Kamala Harris in the recent general election.
Hanks added that she had known Ignizio for almost 20 years and believed he had made a good point.
“Ignizio is a friend, and what he said I agreed with,” said Hanks, who will seek another term next year.
“I love our country and always think it’s great–despite all its bumps and bruises.”
She also slammed Democrats who are throwing blame all around to explain their embarrassing defeat to Donald Trump, someone they’ve attempted to portray as the second coming of Hitler.
“Democrats should take a deep dive on why we lost the presidential election instead of looking at my Facebook comments,” Hanks said.
She said she identifies as “very much a moderate” and “not a left-of-center person at all.”
Hanks was replaced last year as the chair of the council’s Public Safety Committee over disagreements with the “How Many Stops Act,” a law that requires NYPD officers to file reports on more interactions with Big Apple citizens.
Ignizio slammed Democrats for trying to politicize Hanks’ comments and leveling criticism at her.
“Kamillah and I have been friends for 20 years,” he said. “Everyone has to come together post-election.
“The election is over, and now it’s time to govern,” Ignizio, a former city councilman, continued. “President Trump’s success is our success, and we should all want that.”
Ignizio said he had written similar posts when Obama and Biden were elected.
Hanks noted that Staten Island is a borough where lawmakers from different parties work well together.
She emphasized that Staten Island is a place where lawmakers from different parties work well together, stating, "That’s what Staten Island electeds do well. We cross the aisle to get things done. Potholes don’t have a political party."

Good luck, Kamillah Hanks. The Party of Democrats' idea of tolerance is a one-way street.
