NEW YORK CITY, NY – A decades old double homicide that occurred in the Bronx back in the early 1990s has seemingly been solved following an arrest made in Florida by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Tampa agents of a 62-year-old man who allegedly carried out the double murder during a suspected drug robbery.
After nearly 33 years, authorities have made an arrest in the June 1993 double murder of Luis Guerrero and his wife, Danis Sime, which reportedly was carried out inside the couple’s Bronx apartment in front of their three-year-old child.
Following an investigation led by HSI New York and the NYPD, HSI Tampa agents and local law enforcement arrested 62-year-old William Anotnio Solis on April 22nd on charges of intentional killing while engaged in a narcotics conspiracy.
A press release from the Justice Department alleges Solis and two other coconspirators planned a robbery where Guerrero, who was a known drug dealer at the time, was the intended target.
According to authorities, Solis and the unnamed coconspirators subdued Guerrero inside his own apartment, stealing his drugs in the process on June 21st, 1993.
After restraining Guerrero, authorities say the trio “lured his wife, Danis Sime, into the apartment,” binding her as well and executing the two with gunshots to the head.
HSI Acting Special Agent in Charge Michael Alfonso issued a statement following Solis’ arrest, noting the suspect had been “hiding in plain sight” for over thirty years but cited the investigative efforts by law enforcement as being pivotal to helping bring closure to this case and the victims’ surviving family.
“As alleged, William Solis spent decades hiding in plain sight more than a thousand miles from where he viciously murdered the Guerreros in front of their young child.
This arrest is the result of years of meticulous investigative work by dedicated special agents and task force officers who refused to let this case go cold,” SAC Alfonso stated.
U.S. Attorney Jay Clayton also issued a statement commending the relentless work of investigators, saying, “For more than 30 years, this Bronx double murder has haunted a family and the people of New York. That ends today. This Office always will pursue perpetrators of violence, and time is no bar to our investigation and prosecution of these horrific crimes. We will always pursue justice for victims in New York and elsewhere.”
U.S. District Judge Laura Taylor Swain of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York is overseeing the case. If convicted, Solis faces a mandatory minimum of 20 years in federal prison with the possibility of life or the death penalty.
