Another Night of Violence Leaves 20-Year-Old Dead in Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, NC- Another violent incident where one young man was killed and another injured in a double shooting has community members on edge.

On Friday at around 8 p.m., Charlotte-Mecklenburg police responded to the incident where 20-year-old Cameron Gilliard-Robinson was killed and another unidentified man was injured and sustained life threatening injuries, WBTV News reported. Police did not say if an arrest had been made or what led up to the shooting.

Police did say that a vehicle was connected to the shooting, but didn’t disclose how. Major Brian Sanders said “the entire block was the crime scene.”

One resident who was not identified spoke to WSOC-TV News and called the latest violence “concerning.”

“It’s very concerning because at the end of the day, when you go outside, you expect to have fun, you expect to be safe,” the person said.

Three weeks ago and only a couple of blocks from where Friday’s shooting took place, there was a standoff between police and a man who allegedly fired shots at random passing cars and pointed a gun at a police officer. That individual was eventually arrested.

The manager of a local Jamaican restaurant that has been in the area since 2019 has faced numerous challenges, including the COVID-19 scare in 2020-2021. Kayla Reynolds, the manager, dismissed concerns that the latest incidents could affect the business.

“It’s not a violent area, we’ve never really had issues,” Reynolds said. “I know that the incident that happened yesterday and one happened a couple of weeks prior, but it’s not something that constantly happens.”

Reynolds did, however, express concern about the victim’s family, as did another area resident, Ikea Woodynoley, who hopes the family gets the peace they deserve.

“I just pray for the family," Woodynoley said. “I hope the family does get justice and they find whoever, you know, harmed these gentlemen.”
