CHICAGO, IL – An unidentified gunman is currently at large after police say the suspect opened fire on a 17-year-old sitting inside a vehicle at a traffic light during the early morning hours of September 7th in Chicago’s South Loop neighborhood.
According to authorities, the shooting occurred at approximately 3:30 a.m. along the 700 block of S. Wells Street while the victim was sitting in an idle vehicle at the traffic light. An unknown man, reportedly on foot, approached the vehicle the teen was inside of and fired several rounds before fleeing the area.
The victim, who has not been named by authorities, reportedly sustained a gunshot wound to his right arm and was rushed over to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he has since been listed in good condition. Authorities have not released any details pertaining to a possible motive or potential persons of interest connected to the shooting.
The early morning shooting of the teen marks another unfortunate incident over the September 5th weekend in the Windy City, which has thus far seen a total of at least eight victims wounded and five killed in various shootings across Chicago.
On September 5th, an argument between two men in the 1300 block of South Michigan Avenue around 9:30 p.m. turned physical, with a 32-year-old man reportedly producing a firearm, which the 31-year-old victim struggled with before the firearm went off, fatally shooting the 31-year-old in the head.
At approximately 3:36 a.m. on September 6th, police responded to a burglary call within the 5500 block of West Thomas Street involving three subjects. Authorities say the three individuals fled the scene upon police arriving before intentionally crashing into two marked Chicago Police vehicles. One officer who was reportedly pinned by the suspects’ vehicle opened fire, fatally shooting one of the three suspects. One suspect was reportedly able to elude authorities on foot, while the other was taken into custody.
At approximately 10:13 a.m. on September 6th, police say a man was shot several times while outside along the 3000 block of West Polk Street. The victim was transported to Stroger Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased. Roughly 30 minutes later, a 42-year-old man was found fatally shot inside a residence on the 300 block of West 93rd Street.
On September 7th at approximately 5:30 a.m., police discovered a 26-year-old man fatally shot just shy of the 5th/Archer Chicago Transit Authority Orange Line stop in the 3500 block of South Leavitt Street.
