Florida Records First Homicide of the New Year

TALLAHASSEE, FL - Authorities with the Tallahassee Police Department (TPD) are investigating the city's first homicide of 2026 after an incident took place on Sunday in northwest Tallahassee.

An incident alert posted to social media states that police responded to the scene in the 2900 block of Mission Road and found a deceased adult male, the Tallahassee Democrat reported. Authorities have not yet released the victim's identity, how he was killed, nor who could be responsible for the killing.

TPD Watch Commander Damon Miller said police were called to the scene at 2:18 p.m. and found the victim inside a residence. When the Democrat asked about the cause of death and if there were any suspects, he said it is "still under investigation."

Detectives are urging anyone who witnessed the incident to call TPD at 850-891-4200. Anonymous tips can also be submitted for a possible reward through Crime Solvers at 850-574-TIPS.

This incident comes after a woman was shot multiple times and injured at a nearby residence in the 2800 block of Mission Road back on October 26, 2025. When officers arrived on scene, they located a woman suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. A resident nearby described on social media hearing eight gunshots.

"The suspect, an adult male, is known to the victim, and preliminary findings indicate this is an isolated incident," TPD wrote at the time. That shooting was number 47 in 2025.

In 2025, TPD investigated 20 homicides. Only four of them are still open and active, with arrests made in all the other cases. In 2025, 17 of those shootings were fatal and at least 35 victims were injured.
