EATONTOWN, NJ – This past April, officers from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Enforcement and Removal Operations’ (ERO) Newark branch apprehended an illegal alien who is a fugitive wanted for murder out of his home country of Honduras.

On April 20th, ICE ERO Newark officers were operating in Eatontown during a “targeted enforcement” operation when they encountered Fredy Alexander Lopez Lara, an illegal immigrant wanted for homicide in Honduras, during a traffic stop. Lopez Lara was reportedly a passenger inside of the vehicle stopped during the enforcement operation, with subsequent records checks identifying him as an international fugitive.

According to an agency press release, Lopez Lara had entered the United States illegally at an unknown date and location and will be remain in custody pending removal proceedings. Details on the warrant out of Honduras aside from the listed charge was not expanded upon by the agency.

ICE ERO Newark acting Field Office Director Arthur J. Wilson Jr. issued a statement in tandem with the press release highlighting the agency’s ongoing efforts to ensure criminal illegal aliens attempting to evade justice from their countries of origin will be apprehended and processed for removal.

“ICE is actively working with our law enforcement partners worldwide to make sure foreign fugitives wanted for violent crimes are held accountable. We will see to it that no criminal evades prosecution overseas by unlawfully seeking refuge in the United States,” Director Wilson Jr. stated.

Lopez Lara’s apprehension serves as another notable instance where ICE was able to track down and take into custody an international fugitive this past April. As previously reported in Law Enforcement Today, ICE took into custody a criminal illegal alien from El Salvador wanted for murder in her home country while engaged in an enforcement operation in Virginia. Regarding the Virginia operation, the fugitive was on the lam for over a decade while residing illegally in the country.
