FULTON COUNTY, GA - A 43-year-old Georgia man who was on Fulton County’s “Most Wanted” list for sexual crimes involving children as young as 10 years old was arrested earlier in July following a targeted operation conducted by the department’s Strategic Enforcement Unit (SEU).
Fulton County Sheriff Patrick Labat confirmed the arrest of 43-year-old James Anthony Zachery, who was reportedly apprehended on July 17 in Decatur, located in neighboring DeKalb County, crediting the department’s SEU team with bringing the previously at-large suspect into custody.
“The SEU fugitive team did an outstanding job executing this operation and safely apprehending James Anthony Zachery. This is a prime example of the ongoing efforts to strengthen our fugitive apprehension teams,” Sheriff Labat said in a statement regarding the case.
According to a previous iteration of Fulton County’s “Most Wanted” list, Zachery was wanted on a slew of felony charges including aggravated sodomy, trafficking of a person for sexual servitude, solicitation of sodomy of victim under 18, pandering a person under 18, pimping a person under 18, and interference with custody. One of the victims involved in Zachery’s case was 10 years old at the time of the alleged offenses.
Additional details regarding the relationship, familial or otherwise, between the victims and the defendant have not been shared by authorities as of this writing.
Georgia law notes that trafficking of a victim under the age of 18 for the purpose of sexual servitude by itself carries a penalty of 10 to 20 years in prison if convicted, meaning Zachery potentially faces a lifetime behind bars if convicted on all counts he’s currently facing.
Zachery remains in custody at the Fulton County Jail without bond. Details regarding his next scheduled court appearance were not available at the time of this writing.
